RAV4 PHEV - ACROSS differences

I find the Across spec somewhat bemusing. On the one hand the arrangement between Suzuki and Toyota allowed for a completely new grille/bumper but the alloys are Toyota wheels as fitted to the Dynamic spec. The only Badge changes are the obvious Toyota ones replaced with Suzuki. The spec differences are minimal and the colour schemes are identical. Very odd….

I believe that is about it. The Across is AWD, plug-in only - there is no Suzuki equivalent to the RAV4 HEV.

And that's pretty much what one would expect since both are built by Toyota on the same production line.

Oddly however, the Across doesn't get a Speed Limiter - the necessary button is missing from the Across steering wheel (in the brochure).

It would be very easy to offer different paint options, alloy wheel designs and badging. These days the flexibility and automation of the production process allows quite outwardly different cars to run down the same line.

There is no remote control at all from your iPhone it does have bluetooth and Carplay, the Suzuki is not supported by My Toyota App. Suzuki Across are zero factory options, however I do have a space saving wheel.

As it is a Suzuki model, it wouldn't have access to MyT. Same regarding servicing - Toyota dealers probably won't have access to parts info for the Suzuki, and won't be able to handle warranty work or recalls.

From road tests I have read components and parts are identical and still have their clear Toyota markings. I simply cannot accept Toyota dealers cannot access parts info.

Depends whether they have the VIN info for the Suzukis (Across and Swace) ....

doesn't the Suzuki get slower charging too for some reason?
Lets face it, Suzuki needed something quick to get their group CO2 output down to avoid EU penalties so bought in the RAV4 PHEV as its very low. Would have been no gain towards that goal selling the HEV as its not very low CO2 (not since the change in testing, it was really good under the old test)

I have the Suzuki vin no and registration, it rejects them, the alternative is the model up load the model first 8 digits in the new App the Suzuki only has 7. Not a problem I am still happy with the car I like thing simple anyway.

It used to have the slower charger, but later models now have the same charger as the RAV4 PHEV.

If I've got it right a RAV4 VIN will start JTM... I suspect that the Across starts JS...   ?

I bought a 2 year old Across - I wanted a RAV4 PHEV, but htey closed the order books and then I spotted a nice Across at a good price secondhand.

  • Doesn't have an app (I've heard the app isn't good)
  • Doesn't have satnav (but has Andriod Auto - so you can get maps)
  • Doesn't have the 10 year warranty (which seems to have some massive coverage gaps in it)

The warranty is up in October, and I may start using an independent Toyota garage for the servicing from that point.

Great car, I'm really happy with it. It's quite a sleeper as people think it's a Vitara or similar.

I reckon (but don't have data to prove) that they depreciate a bit faster than the equivalent Toyota, so are a good secondhand deal.

I'd maybe buy one new in preference to a new Toyotda if there was a Suzuki dealer I had a relationship with (and like-for-like pricing was the same), but otherwsie I'd probably buy the Toyota new given the choice, but secondhand they're a good deal.

At the end of last year, there were only 404 Acrosses registered in the UK, so pretty rare.

That in itself has the potential to be a problem, in that dealers with experience of working on them may be few and far between.
