PHEV... Dealer let down again

Car in today for 2nd service and DCM update (the new one) and DCDC converter replacement. Specifically asked to get it all done in a day. Told yes no problems, we got the parts.

No. They called a few hours after I dropped it off to say they they didn't have the DCDC part. Frustrating because my diary is hell until November and I'm always using the car all over the place.

Last time it was in 3 times rather just the once that was arranged.

Pretty poor from Toyota. Although not as bad as Peugeot. But that's not saying much.

Annoying and disruptive and unnecessary.

But, on the plus side they had a white GR Sport PHEV in the show room. Looks mean. Nice wheels and tyres. Loving the new driver and infotainment screens. 3 month turnaround on orders. I thought that was good. Surprised. Looks very cool. Kicked myself afterwards because I didn't check for some of the American goodies that I heard would be on the UK version. PanCam, digital rear view mirror are what I want. And a better reversing cam than that VHS long play unit we got.

My dealer got the converter overnight and fitted the next day and only took a couple of hours including a car wash and clean. What a pain, maybe ask to let them have yours whilst you test drive the GR Sport 🤭

I may just do that! A real pain because they said they had the part. Then to be told on the day they didn't.

Did it have a price?

This was going to be my question

Toyota is still only offering the Design spec PHEV on their website at £44k.

I noticed that Honda are now offering the CRV PHEV at £54k. I know 0-60 is not that important but it does give an idea of performance so CRV at 9.2 secs is not exactly blistering. They also claim 51 mile EV range from a 17.7 kWh Battery

Nothing obvious. Suspect about 53k

Not unexpected maybe even be a little low but it seems most new cars are exceeding the £40,000 mark now but a lot to drive around the pothole infested roads of the UK.

Add to that the costs of insurance an the extra tax, plus fuel (mostly tax) I think I may just get an older secondhand one.

I'm fortunate in that it is a rolling exec car scheme (new car every 3 years). Insurance is a blanket company policy so I don't pay anything. Maintenance including wear and tear also covered. Up to 20k miles a year. I do half that.  Basically nothing to pay other than a little salary sacrifice at 7% tax Vs 40%. Overall it costs me about 40% less than a typical lease out of my pay packet. So getting a 54k car for 30k ish and zero worries and zero further expense. Fortunate.

I was in a similar situation as a service engineer a good twenty years ago, make the most of it while it lasts.
