How to wire a Auris Reverse Camera Retention Lead

Hi,  I am installing a Pioneer AVH-Z9200DAB into my 2015 Auris Hybrid and want to retain the factory reversing camera.

My Auris has the 24-pin connector for the camera and I have purchased the CAM-TY2-RT retention lead which has 3 wires I need to connect which are - Red (12v ignition), Black (Ground) and Brown (Reverse Signal).

My question is, which wires do I need to splice these 3 into?  Do I need to wire them to the factory harness or the Pioneer Loom or the Connects2 Loom?  I'm just a bit confused about where they should splice into.

Any help would be much appreciated.  Thanks.

pick up the 12v reverse signal to power the retention adapter, it should be on pin 2 on the 28 pin

This is the socket view or cable side of the plug

Pin 2 - either red or brown

if it's not fitted, you can find the reverse signal at the Instrument panel junction box behind the glove box or use a can bus adapter

Ignore the reverse wire on the Connects2 CAM-TY2-RT it's not used in this application

i will add the reply here instead of the other old thread

NO, the brown wire does nothing (it connects to fresh air on the 24 pin in the car),

The pioneer still needs a reverse signal for the camera to work, it's not a good idea to wire the retention adapter to switched power as the regulator gets red hot over time

2 options

1. splice (join) 1 wire from the Instrument panel junction box behind the glove box

2. spend £30-60 on a can bus adapter

Ah yes, there is a red wire on pin 2 if I look at it from the cable side of the plug - see attached.

So the red cable from the retention adapter to pin 2 on the main 28-pin adapter.  Black wire I guess goes to pin 15.

What about the purple reverse wire coming out of the pioneer?  What should that connect to if the brown wire doesn't do anything?   There is also another purple reverse wire from the connects2 loom as well.

Rev input from the pioneer to pin 2

Positive (red) on the retention cable to Pin 2

black to any ground

Don't forget to wire the handbrake wire too

Great stuff, thank you.  I will try that.

Next silly question, any idea which wire I would need to wire the long green handbrake wire from the Pioneer to?

Sorry if sounding like a real n00b.  It's the first time I am installing a stereo.

That is a simple one, there is 1 connector on the handbrake wire it to that

Thanks.  Here is my thinking I could get away by wiring it to a ground point.

Looks like I will be lifting a lot of trim panels and carpet to get to the handbrake wire.

Yes you can, but i would fit a switch, some menus and features are locked/unlocked depending on the handbrake being on/off

This worked perfectly. I actually spliced the red wired into the pioneer purple/white wire which connected to pin2 on the original loom. Works fine.

Only problem I have now is the Pioneer AVH-Z9200 unit I bought is a dud. It kept loosing half its settings when ignition is turned off even though the yellow and red wires from the pioneer loom is correct. Then I tried  doing a firmware update which failed at 100% and that’s bricked it. My guess is that something isn’t writing to the internal memory card correctly. Just my luck 😞

If it wasn't saving its settings, all you had to do is swap the red and yellow

Red to yellow

Yellow to red

Doing any updates always have the car in ready mode

does it get stuck in a boot loop ?

You can recover it, but you need to strip the unit down to remove the SD card

I've managed to recover the firmware.  It was due to a dodgy USB stick so that's restored but I am still losing settings.

If I swap the red and yellow wires the unit will not remember any of its settings, like the clock time, saved radio stations, or themes.  Always goes back to default.

If I keep the cables as they are, red to red and yellow to yellow it seems to remember half of its settings.  So clock and radio stations seem to be retained in memory but if I change any of the screen layout, widgets and themes the unit doesn't seem to remember any of that when I turn the car back on again.

change the settings as per the manual to the letter, if you do not back out of the menu correctly i will not save the settings

Perform a full system reset
