I have my phone connected to the USB connection to give me Android functions,  if I put a dual connector to this socket, can I also connect a CD player, will it work with both,  same as a computer

Not sure but I don't think so

Why not just rip all your CDs onto your PC then copy them over onto your phone so you can play them straight into the cars system.

We used this free program and as our updated head unit accepts SD cards or USB keys we copied the CD onto them , saves using the phone cable/connection .

IIRC I could not access mp3's on my phone from the cars audio system. I had to download a Android Auto compatible app to my phone and access them through that. I found it a bit clunky TBH, but others get on fine with it.

It won't work, you could use the 12v under the armrest and use one of those 12v USB devices.

However, as you have moved into the world of AA, why not use a streaming service, like Spotify, YTM or my favourite Plexamp?

I think the USB under the armrest is only a 5v power supply and not a data socket as the USB at front is

True, the data USB is the one in the lower dash.

The reason I don't use these is that I would need to have data connection on my phone which I assume is the way to obtain these services

You can use Spotify in 'offline mode', where you only have access to music which you've downloaded to the phone. (just remember that you need to go online every so often, or it 'expires' the downloads)

A handy trick if, for instance, you share an account with a teenager but don't want constant notifications about what they're playing...

As DonMac mentions most music services offer offline modes, but this defeats using AA/Carplay.  I don't know why you don't use mobile data, as that's a choice you have made, however, you are missing out on the navigation benefits from either MAPS/Waze, your music, unless using phone storage for offline mode/installed files and any messaging services that require a data connection.

If you're not using data with AA/Carplay, what would be your alternative?  Would it be discs/tapes/atlases?

I'm not the OP but for me I've slowly ripped my music to mp3 over the years. It's all on a USB stick which used to integrate well with the audio on my Passat. To find I cannot do that on the Corolla because I use Android Auto is a disappointment. I know there are AA compatible players but haven't found one yet that isn't a faf to use. Plus they all want money off you as do Spotify etc.

There is only 1 data USB. If I have my USB plugged into the USB data socket, where do I plug my phone

If the purpose is to charge your phone then use the usb in the center storage compartment.

If you want to access music through usb while using AA for Navigation, then you need to copy the music to your phone, plug your phone into the usb data socket and access it through an AA compatible player. Just reciting what others on here have said (I think!). It seems that the native player on the Corolla cannot see the storage on your phone as a data source.

I also have the dilemma that I have obtained  CD player that fits into the phone compartment, so I cannot have this on and use my phone for Google maps or Android system, unless as I previously asked can I plug 2 USB to 1 socket

I said to use an adapter.  That's what I currently have under there it's a 3-slot USB adapter to power my Dashcam and then I have 2 spare USB slots to charge any devices whilst in the car.

I need more data inputs not charging points

Yes, I think it will be a hardware restriction with the head unit.  I am unsure of any manufacturers that support it, perhaps upgrading the head unit may benefit you. Uncertain of the costs involved though.

The USB bandwidth is fully used when using AA or AC it ties the USB to the device

The stereos do have a second usb port for the DCM not 100% sure if this can be used with a hub, but is does let you use it (displays as usb 2) the problem is the JAE MX connector it uses is unobtanium (Data only the 5v and ground are supplied by another connector)

You can add an Aux In if required

If the CD player is plugged into the USB port, would the phone link to the system using bluetooth for calls etc.?  I can see your dilemma, but I, as previously mentioned by others, ripped my CDs a while back just using the standard Windows Media Player without issue.  Some phones have media card slots within the SIM tray if your phone memory isn't huge, so the ripped MP3s could go on there, and certainly my Corolla has offered to play music from my phone like that without issue.
