Rattle/vibration

Recommended Posts

Posted

My car has developed an annoying vibration/rattle, that appears to come from the upper part of the drivers dash. It's more noticeable when running in electric mode, and more so when turning right. I think I've narrowed down where is coming from, the upper speaker plastic mesh, as when it's doing it, if I press in this it stops. Anyone had this before, and what's the cause. Is this plastic mesh easy to remove . Photo attached.

Hi Chris,

this exactly same situation has been discussed previously here by other members. They had also included some helpful information how to fix it with different methods, foam tape, wd-40 silicone spray etc. Perhaps best way to find the posts is to type in Google chr dashboard rattling and they should come up.
Good luck

Had exactly the same issue , it’s the small speaker grill that vibrates, dealer fixed it by fitting some thin foam pads behind it , problem solved and never returned. We had ours fixed under warranty 👍😊

Thanks.  Def this is the issue. Pressing on it stops it.  Any ideas why it may be worse when turning right??

Ill try and wedge some card into it firstly, then when it does to dealer next get them to fix it.

Ours vibrated at certain speeds on some surfaces , must have been a frequency thing that made it noticeable under some conditions. Make sure you take someone with you from the dealership so they can know what and where it is. First time we took ours the tech said there wasn’t an issue 🤷‍♂️

Sorry to resurrect this. Dealer has ordered a part, but it's taking ages.... I was going to take off the grill myself and have a look. Is it easy to do, don't want to invalidate warranty.... Interestingly the dealer seems to think part of the dash needs to be removed. On a video I've seen of a European model, when someone was updating Speakers, the A Piller needed to be removed. Any advice?

Dealer supposedly fixed this but it's come back, it's really annoying. I suspect they just replaced the plastic grill. I'm happy to try and sort this myself, but how does the grill come off, and where should I put the foam padding, on the underside of the grill or on the mating surface?? Any you tube videos?? Or.... Should I just moan at the dealer, as I don't want to invalidate any warranty... Thanks in advance

Personally, I would take it back to the Dealer as a failed repair.

Noticed its mainly the passenger side now. I'll take it back and tell them to sort it out.

Having the same issue (on the driver side). Tried to get the dealer to take a look but told they could only do something if they could reproduce it, which given its very road surface, speed (and I suspect temperature) dependent I couldn't do, plus got a story about having to dismantle the dashboard for these types of problems.

A small bit of black felt fabric (folded in 2) between the speaker grill and A-pillar has solved it. Will see if I can get the dealer to take another look at its next service in a few months time.
