Used car query re advisories

Hi all

I’m looking at a 2007 used Yaris (1.4 L ZINC D-4D 5d) that in a recent MOT has these advisories:

  • Front Lower under tray fitted/not allowing full inspection
  • Front Tyre worn close to legal limit/worn on edge both sides and 2mm (5.2.3 (e))
  • Front cross member corroding
  • Front Lower both sides/suspension arms/corroding
  • Front all suspension components corroding
  • Rear all suspension components corroding
  • Nearside Rear fuel filler/breather pipe/corroded

Not being all that mechanical myself, is this typical wear for a car of this age? If I were to get this fixed, what sort of cost do you think it would be? £500?

The car is 16 years old so some corrosion is to be expected (my GT86 had some at 5 years old) The severity though is where you need to decide if it's worth taking on.

It might well just be a light dusting that you can monitor and get a few more years out of it, and the only thing that might well be worth worrying about is the fuel filler neck.

It might however be as frilly as my Nan's old antimacassars.

Leave it alone, there are plenty more about any reason for going for a diesel ? Do you do a lot of miles ?

With all that advisories all about corrosion you need to see the car first and properly inspect all that and get a quote for replacement. it might just the mot tester been too picky but could be a rust bucket too.
£500 if you do as diy might be ok but in a garage I think not enough. Also the car can be totally corroded beyond repair and never able to get another mot. Be careful.

Reminds me of the other thread, front end only, it got a good salt water wash down the coast

Thanks all, I’ll reconsider. Not being too mechanically minded I need to play it cautious.

Those two would worry me, the first could be very expensive, the second could be obtaining the part.
