OEM or Aftermarket???

I am looking to put new brake discs and pads on my 2014 Avensis D4D T27. My question is should I go with OEM from Toyota or try aftermarket brands??? Which Aftermarket brand is the best to use on Avensis T27?? Do my rear discs need to be vented or solids?? There is vented front and back on the car from last owner and they used Delphi parts.

As far as I know Delphi parts are ok, but I would still use OEM...

I´ve never seen vented rear discs for Avensis!

I wouldn't go to Toyota to buy brake parts.  You'll get good quality brake discs from any motor factor, or from eBay or Amazon.

I'm not sure that your rear discs are vented either, how do you know they are Delphi?

As the car is only nine years old, I wouldn't expect it to be needing a third set of discs already, the original set of discs on my Avensis didn't get replaced until they were eleven years old.

Front vented, rear solid. You can buy pretty much any brand (Pagid, Delphi, Eicher, EBC, Brembo, Ferodo, Bosch, Mtec...)  from a reputable outlet.

Maybe one of these manufacturers makes discs for Toyota too...?

As an ad once said: cars are made of parts.

Most likely. The Avensis is UK made so will have many of its part made here in Europe. TRW (ZF) and TMD Friction (Nisshinbo) make brake components for many known brands.

TMD is one of the OEM's for Toyota, Pagid is mainly sold by ECP, Mintex pads have a better compound the Pagid items  (both are TMD brands), OEM tend to be a hard compound and dust up

I use Blueprint discs and EBC Ultimax pads. Both high quality spare aftermarket parts. They work as good or even better than the oem Toyota and last as long. Anything good and well known aftermarket will do it. Avoid only cheap unknown brands and those without e markings approved.
Use this site to locate part numbers and can search eBay Amazon for best price. https://japancars.ru/index.php?route=catalog/toyota
Carparts4less , good place to look too.

Thanks for the info yes the back disc is actually solid.... My mistake....So I might go with aftermarket. The brake pads are Delphi on my car...there is a bit if a squeal when the car is cold braking at the first junction.... Doesn't squeak after that.

I used Genuine Toyota brake discs and pads all around on my 2018 Avensis last year. From the eBay Toyota store - although the prices were near the same from my local dealership, which keeps them in stock meaning same day buy and fit / no delivery fee.

The genuine parts are stamped with Bosch and not Toyota (disappointingly) but no complaints so far.

I definitely wouldn't trust motor factor parts, used them in the past on older cars where it wasn't worth the manufacturer or big brands.  You could try EBC and the likes, but it's hard to know / compare the benefits and you can pay a lot of money for them too so think if you need them or want to buy into those sorts of performance advantages

genuine brakes from toyota finish fast try germany ones don't remember the name, i hold with them 6 years still like new. genuine after 2 years need to replace them all.

Only get about 20-25k out of the genuine ones (pads/discs). I buy them off Toyota via eBay and get them fitted locally. Saves about 40% on dealership prices and end up with same parts. I know they work so I've stuck with the genuine ones. I'm aware cheaper ones may be just as good but rather stick with what I'm happy with with regards to brakes.

On 3rd set of pads and discs at 6.5yrs and 75k!  Rear always go fastest on mine??? Apparently to do with release of EPB. Mondeo got 60k out of a set!!!

Mintex discs if you can get them for your car. Great value and don’t corrode like others. Currently using Mintex on my 911, fronts are 4 years old and paint still present on vented section. They almost look brand new, although not a great deal of mileage.  They are certainly lasting better than previous Pagid discs. Would recommend EBC pads, great stopping power, no fade. As for Toyota OEM the pads on my Yaris at only 7 months were already showing signs of corrosion, don’t think they are great quality.

I use Blueprint as preferred choice if I can get hold of them. If I can't then Pagid -they have served me well.

What I would avoid like the plague is those ruddy awful Eicher products.  Had a set of pads on the wife's yaris and they were loose in the caliper - thought I had developed drive shaft backlash but turned out to be the pads moving in the caliper.  My daughter's 'rolla came with them and they leave brown cr*p dust on everything, so they got changed as well.

well if i were you i would stay away from motorfactor places they sell nothing but junk discs and pads .my last car always had bother with warped discs and tbh thats why i got rid of the car .now with my toyota i always buy genuine toyota parts from a genuine toyota seller this is where i got mine .my cars is same like yours a 2014 toyota avensis 2.0 d4d

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/350745640382  (rear brake discs )

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/360618112329    (front break discs)

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/283651078460   (front break pads)

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/254377885507    (rear break pads)

i did my rear discs and pads as my rear pads were going done and we;; with the bother with the epb i thought id put on new genuine toyota discs as well. the rear discs you will need to put the car epb in service mode and change the pads and discs if you like and then drive around the car until you are happy and all good only then you will take the car out of service mode as you DO NOT WANT TO LOOSE CENTER POINT OF YOUR REAR EPB .

thats the way i did mine tbh i drove  my car around making sure breaks worked great then pushed the breaks and only then i put my car out od rear break service mode

I find online motorfactors really useful as one of them will always be having a sale so if you want Brembo or Bosch or whatever just google around.

I've also used dealer eBay shops in the past for brakes, service kits and the like, they can often be quite competitive prices.

Yep, completely agree, their money, their choice, and it helps breed competition which should be good for everyone.

As have I once or twice over the years.

Staements like "motorfactors sells nothing but cheap unreliable parts" are not only a bit silly, they do nothing to help the OP make an informed choice, GSF & ECP are motorfactors, are you really suggesting they only sell cheap unreliable parts ?

To the OP, I've just renewed front discs & pads on my 2005 Avensis, I was lucky enough to find a pair of genuine Bosch front vented discs on Amazon for £35, I bought those because they were cheaper than any other discs I could find, anywhere, my front pads are "Omega" from eBay, and they were £15 for a front set.

I bought a pair of rear discs, solid, from GSF for the princely sum of £3.97, they're now £60, I just checked, my rear pads are "Omega" again, and they were £11 for the rear set. the rear discs are made by DriveTec.

My car is older so it doesn't make financial sense to me, If I had a warranty to protect I might think differently, there are a plethora of sources for parts, some more confidence inspiring than others, It's your money & must be your choice, my advice would be to shop around, consider the cheaper alternatives, especially (but not exclusively) the brand backed suppliers like GSF etc, have a good google on some of the cheaper alternatives that have been suggested, If you're only comfortable going for genuine parts and can afford to do so go that route, there's no right or wrong way, there's just a trade off between your wallet & your peace of mind.

ok well here is my story when you forced me to tell you. so mybe you think that my statement about motorfactor parts are junk and i am silly this is my experience .tbh i cant be bothered with cheap low quality parts no more. am i  still silly then 😞

number 1

i got twice motorfactor break pads and discs and the car in both times warped the discs .plus i know my driving i had my car for 11 years so i drove and treated it like a baby. this was the discs and pads the motorfactor told me to get.

number 2

i got motorfactor track rod ends for my car  and well to my amazement they only lasted 1 if not 2 months i brought my car to my mechanic and he said the track rod ends were the ones that gave away .at the end i went to the dealer and got genuine vw ones and put them in . i went back to the motor factor told him that the track rod ends he was selling were junk. and he gave me the money back that i paid for them. he never thought about me the price i paid my mechanic to pout them in and have to take them out and put in genuine ones.

 number 3

this one was a big one well i always used motor factor oil gemoil to tell you what it was . pure junk oil. well  on jy vw 1.9tdi engine the head gasket went on the car and i says again the car had about 130k on it nothing for those engines . well my mechanic told me that he recons that cheap motorfactor oil was the problem that the head went on the engine.

It sounds like, instead of changing your supplier, you need to change your mechanic.
