2011 RAV4 rear door on drivers side won’t unlock

So my rear door handle on the left side broke. I bought a replacement and took apart the door, replaced the handle, put it all back together and now the door won't unlock at all. What did I do wrong, and how do I even get the door open again to fix it?? It will lock/unlock (go from red to black) when I press the unlock/lock button in the front, but the door won't open from the inside or the outside.
