EPB does not work - handbrake lock - Yaris Hybrid 2021

Yaris Hybrid: Hi all, I'm writing with reference to a handbrake lock problem. I am in trouble with this problem since May. Several interventions in the local Toyota service center have not helped. They changed the sensor but the problem persists. I've also tried a different Toyota center. but they do not see any problems. The fact is that when I leave the center and back home and the problem returns. Both when the car is moving or parked. Anyone have had the same problem? How can I you solve it? THANK YOU, I'm desperate. I'm spending whole days worried for this car and I curse myself for the day I ordered it! The problem arose after 2 years of excellent performance. Then they replaced the brake master cylinder, which probably absorbed the Battery, and the nightmare started. 😞

What is the problem?

What is it doing or not doing that you are not happy about?

I think she has a big problem with the EPB, with permanent locking wheel (or wheels)

maybe 12v Battery? or fuses?

I found this on EPB problems:

How to reset the EPB

If you’re having an issue with the EPB and nothing is working, then you can always reset the EPB system.

Here’s how to reset the EPB system:

1. Without touching the brake pedal, switch the ignition to on and then shift the gear level to park.

2. Locate the EPB button and Pull and release the button to activate the electronic parking brake.

3. When you pull on the button, you should hear a mechanical sound. Once you hear the sound, you can release the button.

4. Then, hold down the EPB button for 35 seconds and then release it when you hear two mechanical beeps.

5. Now, turn off your vehicle and wait for a minute. Then turn it back on. This process should fully reset the EPB system.

I think

Yes, we can spend the next couple of pages theorising on what the problem is and fixes thereof.

But it would be quicker if she could tell us upfront exactly what is happening.

You are right, but she is on an Italian owner Facebook group, so I know her problem ahah

12v Battery not holding a charge may well be the cause, 2021 being a lockdown car too - replace the Battery, it's not covered by warranty either 100 - 150 euros

The Battery of the car has been replaced and also the sensor of the wheel.

The problem is that the car is locked due to the handbrake and any gesture I can do help to solve the problem.

I also tried to reset the EPB system:

1. Without touching the brake pedal, switch the ignition to on and then shift the gear level to park.

2. Locate the EPB button and Pull and release the button to activate the electronic parking brake.

3. When you pull on the button, you should hear a mechanical sound. Once you hear the sound, you can release the button.

.........................

I cannot hear any mechanical sound anymore 😞 please help me, do you know an expert?

@flash22 is the master

No I'm not

Do both sides lock up or is it just the 1 side ? Anything been spilt in the car ?

Edit. Did they replace the brake actuator ?? As that controls the parking brake

Nothing splitted into the car. They change the sensor of the wheel, not the actuator.

thank you for the reply

Get the codes read from the car, the EPB is quite complex, do you get any errors on the dash
