I live in the Uk and own an Estima. I bought it freshly imported 2 years ago and at that time of course the odometer was switched from km to miles. My question is about the other mileage-related displays. From what I can tell, the distance remaining counter is still in KMs, as the estimates seem far too high for miles (today it was 125 with two bars remaining on the fuel gauge). However the fuel consumption gauge seems to be in m/litre (marked as km/l which it would have originally been). It averages around 5.7, this is over a long time including a lot of short city drives but several long trips as well and much in between. I’ve tried to do some calculations and 5.7km/l seems impossibly low, so I assume it must be 5.7m/l. Am I right? I don’t understand how one could be in miles while the other is still in km, so I’d be grateful if someone could explain to me and I can finally stop worrying that I might possibly only be getting 5.7km/litre!!
thanks

I had the same thought when I bought mine but the good people on this forum soon put me right. It will be in miles per litre. On a run I get around 7.4 miles shown on the meter but short hops around town its 5 something.

Phew, and thanks.

It's not in miles it will be in metric, km is calculated as Litres per 100 KM

so 5.7L/100 km works out to 49.5 mpg

1 MPG = 282.481 l/100km

Formula

282.481/(5.7 L/100 km) = 49.558 mpg (imperial)

Except, that in no way correlates to the fuel I use on a journey which represents far closer to 30-32 mpg?

Sounds about right...49mpg from an Estima seems rather ambitious.

I recall getting around 32 from my V6 some years ago on a long mixed motoring run in Summer but that was back of a fag packet calculation as I'm not that anal about mpg only doing around 4k miles p.a.

I guess on average I'd be doing around 25-ish mpg year around.

I'm well happy with that.

I've not know any Estima to sustain an average of more than low 40's mpg except when going down a long hill!

The display is not fuel quantity/distance. It is distance/fuel quantity. The answer above saying it is miles/litre once converted to counting miles not km, makes more sense to me and rings true to my fuel consumption.

To clarify/ the display actually says km/l

My displays all say Km but it was converted so?

7.2 is about the best I get driving Miss Daisy down a motorway.

7.2 miles/ltr x 4.65ltr to gallons = 33mpg ?

electronic or physical conversion (dials) ?, the trip is still Metric as is the algorithm JDM cars are metric all emissions are base on Litres Japan does not use imperial measurements

https://autocatalogarchive.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Toyota-Estima-2009-JPN.pdf

KM/l to MPG

7.2 KM/l x 2.82481 = 20.33 mpg

7.2 100km/l

282.481/(7.2  L/100 km) = 39.233

Estima hybrid has a combined mpg of 47 (2005 onwards)

If I was getting 20.33 mpg I would need to stop more often on my journey so something doesnt add up.

I think I will set up my OBD port to read fuel use and take a closer look.

I dont doubt what is being said but it seemed to use around 30mpg acording to tank 65lt and distance travelled.
