Hi

I took delivery of my new C-HR at the end of May this year and have done around 8000 miles since. Sadly it's driving me mad with it's constant beeping etc; worse than a backseat driver. Also sadly i will never have another Toyota. Over the years I've owned a C-HR, Prius plus ( a truly great car and I'm sorry I got rid of it) a land cruiser and now this C-HR. Yes the new one gives great M.P.G; and yes it handles pretty well, but you just can't turn off all the unnecessary driver aids. it seems Toyota is locked onto putting even more of these things in future cars and I can't live with that. I tell the car what to do, not the other way round.

Wishing you all well

Some of these are now or due shortly to be compulsory on new cars, whatever the manufacturer - lane keep assist, drowsiness warning, speed limiter, etc - and there are proably more to come, so I you won't escape having the various beeps, etc, whether you stay with Toyota or not.

The only one to drive me nuts is lane assist, but it takes two seconds to turn off so no hardship really, can't imagine what else is beeping and bothering you?

Hi Ian, sorry to hear the problems you have experienced with the driving aids. As frosty says some of these will be compulsory soon and for those like yourself who can't stand the constant beeping this may effect the purchase of an otherwise really nice car.

But if all cars are to be fitted in the future with these driving aids I think we are stuck with them.

Good luck for the future.👍

Ian,

you can  change  to another car make but you will still get the same safety systems and warnings that are now mandated by the EU.

Lane assist can be silenced if I remember correctly. You should be able to choose between a beep and a steering wheel vibration. I have mine set to beep, so I may be wrong here. My Good Lady has her Yaris steering set to vibrate rather than beep

If what iand12 is experiencing becomes commonplace on new cars (e.g., not being able to turn off driver aids), then I would imagine this could be another boost for the value of low mileage pre-2023 cars.

I still believe that too many driver aids can become a distraction to drivers, thereby reducing the true safety factor.

Interestingly there have been media  reports this week saying that DVLA and Ministers are considering changes to the framework for renewing licences after the age of 70, due to the large numbers of applications being received by DVLA and the increasing use of technologies (driver aids, etc) in cars which promote safer driving. Changes could mean that previously excluded groups could have licences renewed ....

Elderly drivers may keep their driving licences for longer under new proposals from DVLA | Express.co.uk

Dunno about CHR but the only beep I have now on the RAV is for park sensors and the RCTA, everything else is visual notification only.

And it's true, all new cars are the same now
