Anyone breaking a 2.0 diesel Toyota Corolla

Hi guys is anyone breaking a Toyota Corolla D4D SR 2.0 Diesel

 I urgently need a gearbox 

also looking for some other bits but mainly the gearbox

What is the problem with the gearbox ? and the other "bits" ? 

There used to be a lot of Clutch and Gearbox companies who could repair /rebuild Toyota  gearboxes, though they are becoming rather scarce these days, might be worth searching your area /the web for such places and seeing if anyone can help.  Search also under Transmission Repairs as well as Gearbox.

There are gearboxes on eBay etc  as "used" or " reconditioned" though would be very wary of them, unless someone can say from personal experience how good the one they got was.

Thank you that was my thoughts to repair them round here I’m looking at just over £1000, it’s the pinyon and diff bearings apparently sound very much like a wheel bearing but with a woo woo woo noise

Well always worth a second opinion on that diagnosis,  though if the gearbox  has to come out, its false economy not to replace the Clutch (typically £100 for the parts) and possibly the flywheel.

With such a big cost, it depends on the state of the rest of the car, might be cheaper to buy a similar aged working Corolla for the same money as your gearbox repair  ?

Its possible the woo woo is a front wheel bearing

When I had my 06 Corolla D4D, it had whiney gearbox and a wuh wuh noise

Had gearbox reconditioned, new gearbox bearings etc, but, still had wuh wuh noise , until front wheel bearing was replaced, then all quiet. So bear in mind

Thank you both wheel bearings are new replaced in June , been driven on ramp and stethoscope on whilst running and noise is coming from centre
