Headlight beam deflectors removal

Recommended Posts

Just an update from previous use of beam deflectors.

Heated them up by turning my headlights on.

One peeled off and I was able to remove the sticky pad that remained.

The other I couldn't get a hold of and left a circular patch of glue.

Researched Youtube

Ordered Amazon - Tetrion Methylated Spirit 500ml £4

Dampened a microfibre cloth and off it came with a bit of elbow grease.

Or you could have used WD40. Works brilliantly to remove sticky residue

I tend to go for silicone spray.  WD40 is a water dispersant.  It got its “WD40” title - WD being water dispersant, and 40 being the 40th attempt at reaching success.

But, wouldn't the silicone spray leave a silicone residue? WD40 can be washed off with soap and water.

A quick polish usually leaves an invisible, microscopically thin film.  When caravanning, I have used silicone spray on my extension mirrors - it helped to keep rain from staying on the glass surface.

Interesting. I must try this.

But, does it remove the sticky residue that is left after removing the old beam deflectors?

I think it must have a penetrating effect on the sticky stuff, and eventually produces a releasing effect between gunge and lens, but doesn’t attack the surface of the lens.  For some time now, I have always chosen silicone spray over WD40.

Thanks Haliotis. I use WD40 for certain applications, and GT85 for others, depending if I want the silicone or not. I didn't know the GT85 could remove the sticky residue
