Hi All

I have an issue with my car when revving and starting to drive.

there is a lag when revving the car and when taking off i need to give the car plenty of revs or else it may stall.

also, when i come to a junction on a hill i need to be very careful that it doesn't stall even in biting point then when i start to drive the car can shudder when taking off.

would anyone have any ideas or came across this before?

thanks

I took the pipe off the throttle body and it was very clean not much black came off it.

The car is sitting around 700 rpm when idle.

I also put a obd scan onto it with no codes reported.

If in doubt, disconnect the Battery for 15-20 mins and let it all reset, 1.4 petrol, 4ZZFE engine i take it

Mileage, when was it last serviced, when did it last have a set of plugs ?

Worn plugs will make it run rough especially if the gaps are too large, only use Denso plugs (K16R-U11)

yes its 1.4 petrol 4ZZU engine??

113k mileage and recently service but plugs not replaced.

is the plug replacement a DIY job?  car doesnt have to be set or anything?

Yes, it is diy friendly, nothing special about checking/replacing the plugs, you don't need to reset anything

Update, I changed the 4 spark plugs and  picture of old ones attached.

Took car for spin about 4 to 5 mile appeared to run better but still some lag.

I took a video of car sitting and revving showing how the revs drop when foot completely off accelerator to 1200 rpm then to around 700 rpm does it sound OK?

I wouldn't find anything strange in that if the car were new to me. The revs appear to increase quite smartly and there's a small pause at fast idle before it drops to the resting idle speed, which is quite typical of modern cars. How long have you owned this car and is what you're witnessing a change from how it used to behave? I'm just trying to confirm that it's actually got a problem before you potentially get sent on a wild goose chase.

If it's a delayed response thing then I would think maybe worth investigating the TPS (throttle position sensor).

Update, I adjusted the throttle cable as there was a bit of slack when pressing down on it and this appears to have done the trick.

Will keep an eye in it just to see.

Thanks everyone

Worth checking the cable if its free to move easily,  eg    muck or  the twisted wire cable can fray and odd strands can catch on the outer casing making movement erratic and stiff at times.

Have you tried cleaning the MAF sensor?
