EPB - electronic brake problem

Recommended Posts

Posted

I have the EPB permanently switched on. Yesterday when I pressed the start button a message came up that the EPB was unavailable and the hybrid system was not ready to start. The EPB button was flashing a warning red. The car was totally immobile and could not be moved. Has anyone else had this problem and what could be the cause? Not a flat Battery surely? The headlights were blazing away.

My current car is the C-HR Icon 2021. My member profile is wildly out of date because I don't know how to change it. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Frank,

The below is what I could find after a google search

"EPB = elecronic parking brake. Operate the parking brake switch. If the message does not disappear after operating the switch several times, the system may be malfunctioning. Have the vehicle inspected by any authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any reliable repairer immediately."

Hope this helps

Just had the breakdown man in to fix the car. Turns out it was a Battery problem after all, down from 12v to 9v.I've been driving Toyota hybrids for the past 17 years and never had a fault till now. Am I lucky or what??

Have in mind that I drive the car every day and often do less than 10 mile round trips, which is common use for most drivers, does this suggest that today's batteries are not as strong as they used to be? Searching this website suggests that these 12v batteries are a frequent problem unless one does a high mileage run every week. In that case, come on Toyota, put bigger batteries in your cars.

I have a 45AH 12v Battery and it's dropped to 9.5v on 3 occasions. This is the new normal for me now, I do have a Jump pack to get the car going if needs be.
