Handbrake light stays on

New to the forum, didn’t need technical help before, but now… I really do 😒

My 2005 Yaris, has the red handbrake light on.

fluid level is ok, handbrake switch is ok, but to be sure, I left these 2 disconnected now, so they can’t trigger it, but still: randomly, the light comes on !

I noticed, that after a night or so, the light is on, and stays on, until the brake pedal is pressed.  Next starts, the light stays of. (??)

what is the relation between the light, and the brake pedal, vacuum, or whatever ?

Wim

It may just be a damp issue with leakage current finding its own way across wiring harness then when its dry it works ok.

It’s 30degrees+ here, no rain since a while so no moisture issue.

found out, that while driving, and touching the brake pedal, the light shortly goes out, sometimes longer.  But the brake pedal definitely does something.

I’m going to try to change the brake pedal switch first… let’s see.

Does it have ABS ? The handbrake light has nothing to do with the brake light switch - i would perform a fluid change for a start

Have you checked the resistance of the level sender

Both handbrake and levelsensor are disconnected.

fluid is new since 6 months.

and yes, it has abs.

but why does the light goes off when pressing the pedal ?

Hi Wim,

Check the cable for the handbrake as usually if it gets interrupted/broken, it will light up
