Remote window closing

Having bought a new Yaris cross I am disappointed to find that I cannot close the windows remotely.   Apparently this is something that Toyota has removed from this model.

is there any way that this facility can be sorted without buying an after market motor and installing this.

Surely it is just a remote key reprogramming issue.

Anybody else experiencing this issue and if so how did you resolve it.

I know that with the Yaris, this can be programmed by Carista / Carly / the Dealer. It may be worth talking to the Service team at your dealer to see if it can be done on the Cross

That is the first thing I ask the dealer to do when collecting my Yaris 2 months ago. They are not enabled at factory, ask the dealer to enable it, the motor should already be in place.

Something I had on my last car which I hardly used, mines not enabled, I’m in two minds whether to ask the dealer to do it next year at service time, can’t really see what use it is as you can cool/heat the car remotely…

Enabled this (window open or close by remote key) on my Yaris using Carista and an OBD bluetooth adapter.

It's not been removed; It's never been enabled by default on the Mk4 Yarisuesieueesieusieses - We've all had to request it.

I asked mine to do it at its first service and they did so free of charge; If you don't want to wait, I think if you booked it in for the next available slot, they'd be okay with doing it as it takes a couple of minutes and even the intern could do it   so wouldn't impact their schedule too much

There are a few dealer-set options like this and I do wonder why they don't ask which ones you want enabled for the handover; Then again it wouldn't surprise me if most dealers don't even know about them - Mine didn't until I requested it!

To be fair, there is something to be said for offering customers too many choices - There are a lot of entitled idiots out there and I can imagine some customers turning a simple query into a 3 week horror fest for the service department about some trivial options...

That said, it's not a fantastic feature - You have to stand still and hold the lock/unlock button down to close/open the windows, and there is a multi-second delay (Presumably just to make sure you didn't do it accidentally), and you have to keep holding it until it's closed/opened the desired amount.

I find if I'm walking up to the car while holding the button, it won't work, which kinda sucks.

It's fun, but not very practical - Due to the short range, requirement to not move, and the long time holding the button, you could literally walk up to the car, start it, and set the windows to what you want in less time!

The main reason for mine is I once left one of the windows open, and didn't know until my neighbour rang my door bell and joked my car was turning into a swimming pool, so I had to scrabble for the keys, unlock the car, jump in, start it, and raise the window - This led to me getting soaked too

At least now, if it happens again I can just look out the window and hold the button down!!

In the online manual you will find a series of options which are divided between user and dealer.   The window option is a dealer one.

I use it from time to time the open all windows to dump hot air.  Useful too if you have a window open after you have gotten out of the car.

There is also an option to change the tailgate opening.  I tried if but didn't like it.

I did it on my cross with Carista. I also set the turn signal click sound to minimum and turn off rear seatbelt warning sound.

If you don't have one, another vote for Carista.

I enabled remote open/close of the windows because why not?

I also disabled the one-touch-open for the rear windows from the driver's door. I'm forever catching these in the Cross and suddenly finding the window fully open when I don't want it!! At least it will prevent it opening fully. It's not the most ergonomic panel on the car.

I also changed the light sensitivity of the dash, so it remains brighter for longer before dimming down.

Despite setting the headlights to "darkest" they still bounce on/off when passing in the shadow of trees on an otherwise sunny evening. I just hope it doesn't affect the life of the headlamps too much.

I also disabled the one-touch indicators. I just find them extremely annoying (if you accidentally activate it, you can't cancel it).

The interior lights can't be set quite as I could set them in the Gen.3, but this seems to be related to what happens with the door locks. If you unlock the doors before switching off the car, the interior lights remain off until you open the door, whereas on the Gen.3 if the doors were unlocked, switching the car off caused the lights to come on. A very minor issue.

Overall, worth the cost of admission!

While talking about differences, the Cross backlight lighting is not only brighter than the GR Sport, but it comes on without the headlights, whereas on the GR Sport the backlights are linked to the headlight state.

I also noticed the DRLs on the GR Sport will dim before the headlights actually come on. I never noticed that on the Cross.

I've had this global opening / closing on all my cars since late 90's. Didn't realise the Cross didn't have it. I'm glad it doesn't, if I had my way I'd have had it removed from my other cars.

Surprised nobody has mentioned the negative. The only time I've used global opening is by mistake. If you have the key in your pocket and say there's something else in your pocket, it's quite easy for the button to be pressed without realising. On occasion I've gone to those cars only to find the windows partly lowered for that very reason. It also works in conjunction with electric sunroofs and yes, I once came back to a soaking wet car.

Can't think of any reason I'd use it.  Forgetting to close windows?  In all other cars I've owned, locking the car arms the alarm interior motion sensors, so when air moves thru the car, the alarm will go off which means you'd have to forget to lock it as well.  I'm just not that absent minded - yet. 🤣

It's much harder to accidentally do that with these ones - You need to be really close, not moving, and hold the button fairly firmly for a significant amount of time before the windows even begin to move; If you still somehow did it accidentally you'd definitely hear the windows due to the close proximity required.

Ironically that's what makes it less useful to me - I envisaged using it to open the windows as I approached the car, after it'd been parked in the middle of a roasting field all day, so it could vent the worst of the hot air before I hot in.

Because it won't do it if you are moving, and you have to be very close before it even does it, I can't use it in such a fashion, because at the distance where it does work I could get in, start the car, and lower the windows in similar time!

I've literally never used it except for showing off due to close range required.

As a matter of interest, if I hold the open window button on the remote (unlock) for a short press (2 or 3 seconds) then the windows drop 6 inches and stop.  To get them to open all the way you have to hold the unlock button for longer.  Mine will open from approx 3 metres away, which is still good enough by the time certain people naff about putting things in the boot, on the back seat etc etc. 🙄😵‍💫😎
