I'm guessing its something to do with lubrication. It usually is...

Sera_Beetle found a source, otherwise API engines. 5E-FE engines are a damn site easier to find than the 5E-FHE.

Engines knocking like crazy when rev'd :ffs:

Gonna B engine rebuild or change engine & change engine will be cheaper.

Yeah i just got some quotes on 5E-FE engines all around £400 cheapest was 375 Delivered

Whats the difference between 5E-FE & 5E-FHE?

I've been offered 2 import engines will there be problems or any difference in parts for them. as just having bare engine so using exsisting altenator etc

Thats exactly wots happend to my engine, its probably the bottom end bearings have gone, you have either over reved it or run it low on oil. Get a 4efte engine, thats wot ive done!

Whats the difference in a 4EFTE Engine compared to a 5E-FE

And are import engines the same ?

4E-FTE = Starlet Turbo. 1.3 litres, 133bhp

5E-FHE = Sera, Jap Paseos. 1.5 litres, 110bhp (when fitted with correct ECU)

5E-FE = Paseo, 1.5 litres, around 95bhp.

Compression ratio, fuel injectors, cams and ECU are main differences between 5E-FE and 5E-FHE.

So my current engine is a 5E-FE can i just drop in a 5EFHE or do other things need changing?

 Thank you for all this help it is much appreciated

If it was a complete 5E-FHE that would drop straight in. The wiring side may be tricky, a 5E-FHE ecu from a Sera (I've got some spare) and these have a 2 plug ECU (26 pin plug and a 16 pin plug) Some Paseo have three plug ECU which makes it difficult...

What sort do you have?

I Haven't got a clue mate

I'll probably go for a straight forward swap 5E-FE

When the Salvage people say its an import will it be the same

will it still be be a 5E-FE or do they have different codes

There may be teeny differences, usually different sensors, and you pinch the relevant part from the old engine

Sorry to ask again, so how do i tell if my ecu is 2 plug, can u tell me where to look.

also is that the only thing stopping me dropping the 5E-FHE complete engine in?

The ECU is going to either be behind the glovebox somewhere, or under the middle of the centre console.

Its a shiny box measuring about 6" x 4" x 1" thick. Loads of wires going to it, but in either two connector blocks or three. If you can see the label on the ECU it shows how it goes.

If you've got a 2 plug ECU I'm confident you could fit a 5E-FHE engine, fit a 5E-FHE ECU from a Sera and be away with an increase in power.

for £400 you could rebuild the engine as i am in the middle of doing, then you know wat the engines done, i got new crank Shell, thrust plates, big end shells, new pistol rings, i have give re-seated the valves and cleaned the head and i have not spent £200 yet. i need a gear box which i have soursed for toyotasera.co.uk (thanks) i need a radiator aswell.

if you do get a new engine could i buy yours off you or buy parts from you?

dai. Try heathrow scrappy - when i blew the big ends on my old engine i bought a new 5E-FHE from there for £200 - £250 delivered and it only had 25000 miles on it.

and you should know how the engine performs as weve dabbled before if i remember rightly

if you want their number just ask
