Hello all,

We are thinking to change the older Yaris we have for a newer car that has AC, cruise and most important automatic, hopefully in the next few months, and I like to do my research very early to make an advised decision

Out budget will be from 5-8 k for a second hand car, we would love to have another hybrid in the family

We have already an 2021 Yaris Mk4 hybrid that we love and the size for us is more then ok

Looking on Autotrader I see that Auris and Yaris hybrid are about the same price/year (and maybe Prius)

I know the Auris is bigger and more options, but size is not really important for the commute of 24 miles daily my wife does, especially as on the B roads a smaller car makes more sense, not sure if the size difference is that great to be honest but also I suspect with the Yaris there are lower chances to buy a taxy used car with a lot of miles the only issue i have is my wife finds the Mk3 Yaris a little blunt.

We already have the Yaris mk2 and Mk4 we know how they work and fell like driving, that is a blessing and a curse at the same time, we like things simple that work for a lot of years

I like the Auris interior shape/size and comfort as my brother has a normal petrol one from 2007, I have a feeling it could be a better car as it would be more comfortable I believe then the Yaris over bumps/potholes and we would have a bigger car for traveling in UK from time to time if needed

Also service and maintenance cost are important as the car will do some miles

Another option would be a Prius, but, most are taxis with a lot of miles, very hard to find one that is not a taxi and have the confidence to buy it, we had a friend with one and it was lovely to drive and comfortable, for the Prius we both like the shape and looks of it

Some questions I have

-why choose one over the other ?

-how to make sure the hybrid system is still ok on a second hand car ?

-we like to keep our car for more time, so reliably?

-safety in case of a crush?

Let me know your thoughts and opinion

Thank you 🙂

Auris hybrid then, get a cat plate.

Yes the MK3 Yaris hybrid is blunt especially since you have the MK4. I came from a MK3 to a MK4, now I enjoyed driving medium to long a lot more.

The Yaris will use less fuel of course. The auris would be more comfortable for longer journey.

Thanks for the answer Mojo

If you don't mind me asking:

what is a cat plate?

I was hoping someone cat tell me how to make sure the hybrid is in good condition when buying especially that probably the car will be over 10 year old and out of warranty

Cat theft, a plate to protect the cat part of the exhaust, thieves are cutting the cat from the auris and others. Tonyhsd in the auris forum is the guy to check on for the auris high mileage.
