Hi all, just ordered a YC excel, the dealer offered me numerous options at extra £s if you don't mind could anybody recommend what they ordered, is paint protection, or film worthwhile is the YC prone to stonechips ? Headlamp film, side bar/steps, mudflaps, rubber mat for boot, anything else? I used to get a bit of discount from Toyota parts direct or would I be better haggling with the dealer? many thanks Stew 👍

I think there's  a problem with ordering extras like mudflaps and rubber mats. Ive had an excel for nearly 2 years now and have a pro pack and adventure pack that included the above and boot protection which have been brilliant. A couple of weeks ago I ordered a Cross GR as my PCP contract with the current vehicle was nearly at an end and the salesman advised me not to add any extras re protection as once ordered the vehicle  would not be delivered to them until they were available. He added that at the moment they are taking the protection out of part exchange vehicles and fitting them in new ones if required. When my Cross arrives Im taking my mats and boot protection out and putting them in the new one. With regard to stone chips I haven't had any but you can get them anytime I suppose. In my opinion car seems bit small for sidesteps but that's a personal thing and as for paint protection maybe it depends how long you intend to keep the car. Good luck with your purchase Stew and remember salesmen will try and sell you all sorts which is fine if you want them.

Paint protection rarely applied properly from experience. I prefer good quality shampoo and a ceramic polish. I use Meguiars, not cheap but great finish.  Wash and a detailing spray once a week and it shines. Re-polish after  4 to 6 months.

No connection, was recommended to me by a professional detailer.

I had just the SUV pack as extra, but had a refund for the mud flaps.

Thanks for above replies, I use maguiars all the time, don't want you to think I am a tight rrrs but seen rear boot mat on Amazon at £26  and also door scuff plates and tailored rear seat cover (I have a small dog) so will bear in mind thanks all I need now is someone to teach me how to drive it, and operate all its gadgets, wife was sold with it when salesman put his foot under rear bumper and tailgate opened, apparently this will be amazing at Waitrose! actually she said tescos, but wanted you to think we were posh 😄

We had the rubber floot mats, boot floor protection, and mud flaps for the Cross.

For my car I ordered the rubber floor mats and mud flaps, but the mud flaps are not available, so they're refunding the difference. They said there is currently no ETA on when, or even if, they will be available. I've opted for a rubber boot floor protector instead.

I tend to go for rubber mats and mudflaps as I find them the most cost-effective ways to preserve a car's condition and appearance. All modern paints are prone to stonechips on any car, so the protection thing is a personal choice, but don't be duped into paying for it as an 'investment,' because your car isn't going to end up in poor condition relative to other examples just because you didn't pay for it - all cars pick up paint chips. If you decide that you do want it, there will be better value options to be had with an independent detailer (either cheaper or more effective) compared to a car dealer's offering.

As for optional features such as the foot waving sensor etc., it's important to remember that these things have absolutely no influence on the residual market value, so there will be no return on purchasing such extra features regardless of what the salesperson says. Feel free to tick the boxes, but only for things you really want to have and are prepared to spend on.

I took the paint protection at a discount , I don’t normally get this done as I wax my own but it was the only way I could get the dealer to move a bit on the deal , I also got the boot liner but wish I’d gone for the rubber mats as I think the carpet ones will get ruined with the state of our car park at work, I got a few stone chips with my previous car but I used a kit from chipex which was very good and matched the paint perfectly, as for driving, well it’s soooo easy to drive, it’s our very first auto and, initially, my wife was a little apprehensive regarding driving it, but now we’d never have another manual, enjoy your car…

I got the rubber boot mat and the ceramic.  No other extras offered.  Honestly I have not had a mud problem.

Boot mats a bit iffy.  I use a large nylon bootliner from Aldi when I am doing a tip run.  When the seats are down I need that large liner.

As the boot floor is a split 2 part and the liner on top is one piece it can be a pain.
