Air conditioning gas for Yaris petrol 1.33

Hi all,

I do not use my car much at all TBH, as I am driving a community car for most of the week.
However last time I had to use my A/C it was working fine.

Needing to go to Southampton for the weekend, I find that I have no A/C at all. In this weather, obviously not great.
I will have to wait until I get home to recharge it.

On my previous non Toyota cars, I just went to Halfords and bought a gas cylinder and borrowed my mates connector adapter.
Do Toyota use the same gas as everyone else, and if not, where can I find what they do use please.?

TIA

Think you may find that yours being a 2017 model, will have the newer R1234yf gas which became compulsory around this time and is more expensive than the earlier R134 gas.

Is there a label on the underside of the bonnet?

Thank you for the replies.
I was busy enjoying myself last weekend and have only just revisited this thread. 🙂

Indeed there is, thank you. It is the 1234yf and also states 350 + 30g

Sadly it does. 😞

]You can book a visit to these guys and they will take care of your ac. I believe they also have best prices too and suitable equipment.

Thank you, I will check them out. I have just taken my motorbike for it's MOT and my regular garage said they do it as well, but would need to check which gas I need. I have now identified that thanks to bathtun tom

Ok, looking around I am a little puzzled at somehing like this which purports to be equivalent to 340g of the actual refrigerant, yet is only 168g itself? 🤥
Not had a any reply from Protyre yet as to their price.

Hi,

My local protyres charge me £60 for ac regas and this is on hybrid with different type of oil and gas  R134.
The machine they use does run a test first then add oil and gas accordingly and it is the right way to service these systems imo. Cans and similar, not really.

Yes, I was charged around that much for a recharge with ATS a few years back on my old Mondeo.
However my car uses the new, much more expensive gas.

I am at the moment just exploring options, as unlikely to need A/C until nex spring, so might well just leave well alone for now. 🙂

I have charged cars myself with the cans and respective hose in he past, and that worked fine.

May not be a good idea if you think the system has a leak and intend keeping the car. It could vent to the atmosphere and any re-use may require a new dryer.

I'm concerned the Amazon link you posted referred to 'equvalent to R1234YF gas'. Is it R1234YF gas or not?

If you're talking about the bottle picture, it actually says "Equivalent to 340g 1234yf  Refrigerant" - It's not saying it's equivalent to 1234yf gas, it's saying it's equivalent to 340g of gas.

This is what WelshGasman was querying, i.e. how can something of "Net Weight 168g" be "Equivalent to 340g"

I hope the new systems are more leak resistant as none of the places I used to regas do 1234yf, so if I had to regas it right now the only people I know who do are the dealer...
