I had a Software Update Error message come up on the main display yesterday. I pressed the "OK" button and this cleared . . . for a few seconds. Then the message reappeared, and no matter how many times I pressed OK, I could not get it to clear. As I was passing a Toyota Dealer, I stopped in and spoke to one of the Service staff. They weren't too helpful, and all I could get out of them was that the car needed to come in for diagnosis.

To cut a long story short, I managed to get this fixed myself, and I am posting this to help anyone else who has the same issue.

My iPhone usually connects to the car via bluetooth. Start by disconnecting the bluetooth connection. This is in the Settings menu. Then, still in the settings menu, go down to the WiFi settings and connect to WiFi. Once connected to your chosen WiFi connection, the new update will be downloaded. I connected to WiFi and then started my trip, which took around 15 minutes. When I had reached my destination, I turned the car off.

I switched on again about a minute later, and the message was gone. All I can summarise, is that the update will take about 15 minutes. There was no confirmation that it had been one, but it seems to have worked.

Hopefully this will help someone who has a similar issue.

My 21-plate C-HR has just been in for its annual service. AS I only bought the car in April 23, I said I wasn’t sure if the maps were up to date.  During the service, I got a call from the technician to say an update was needed on my media system, which would cause a delay in completion of the service, and should he go ahead?  I said yes - when I picked up the car, I was told the update was covered by warranty, but updating the maps was chargeable, so hadn’t been done.   I think it is possible to DIY map updates (?), so will have to check this.

Yes, DIY map updates are possible. You will need to download these from the eStore. Maps updates are free for the first three years, after which they need to be bought. The update takes about 70 minutes (if I remember correctly).

I've seen this only once. It was after I had set off for work. It cleared when I pressed ok, and I've never seen it since. I checked if it had done an update and it hadn't, so no idea why it showed up. Out of interest what's the most up to date software version. I've never connected my car to a wireless network, unsure why it would be needed, but today I was messing in setting whilst waiting on a carpark, and pressed the map update button. I got the message map update error, please contact your dealer. When I got home, I connected my car to my home router, and tried again, but got same message. Can you update maps like this?? Also what's the need or point of connecting the car to a wireless network. I'm not currently too bothered about the map update, as I'm using cloud maps( or should be as all connected services are active). Any advice??

Mine refused to clear. I was using Apple maps at the time, but had to continually clear the Software Update Error message.

When I stopped, I checked, and the system showed it had the latest version, but kept giving me the software update error message.

This wasn't a map update, but a system update.

You can do OTA updates via wireless - or, at least, you can with the 2019-2021 generation systems. Take a look at what is available for your generation via My Toyota, but I'd be surprised if the OTA option isn't available to you.

But, there is a limitation to how much of the European map set that can be updated OTA and how old the base map set has become for the OTA option to work. If you want to update the complete European map set you will need to use the USB option.

Can't find anything about OTA..... According to my Toyota, it's connected and verified etc. I've got a 2022 touch 2 with go I think. There is a reference to downloading apps, but I've never seen any apps on my unit.

If it is a Touch 2 with Go you show see a my Toyota page containing the following:

It might be different if you have the later smart Connect system ...

Sorry for late reply. I don't have that option on the Toyota site. I do have a manage my connected services.  I've got a C-HR with the e-call in the car, so maybe I've got the smart connect system.
