I have been looking at the Yaris Cross as my next car but also like the corrola one thing i have noticed is the rev counter in Corrola is a lot different to the Cross which has CHG, ECO, PWR in the video below he accelerates then takes his foot off the revs drop to zero yet the car carries on at the same speed, i assume its running on Battery power with the ICE off but thought i would ask.

Thanks.

I should have added this to the OP showing the difference in how the dials work on both cars -

It's not a rev counter Max, it's more like a power/eco/charging type info meter.

I also have Lexus and you can change from power meter to Rev counter as you wish.

Pretty much never use the Rev counter, not much use on a hybrid.

Is this the other option?

I prefer the one on the right.

Agree, the power meter set up looks better.

2019-2022 Corolla dashboard rev counter was not a great idea , similar to cable operated gear selector.
In these cars rev counter is no needed for two major reasons:

Revs are never directly related to the wheels speed.

There are two power sources that needs to be displayed as helpful information to the driver therefore the power meter is the more important and more useful from both.
The power meter show how much power is coming and where it is coming from., also shows how much regenerative braking is happening while slowing down.
New chr and new Lexus lbx both models has the best and the finest from Toyota hybrid technology as dashboard set up and instrument layout.

Thanks Tony.

Are both options below available on 2019 - 2022 Corolla or is it only later cars that get it?

I can see both the power meter and the tacho at the same time on my Mk4...

(Admittedly only because of the HUD! I don't think the tacho is available at all in normal Mk4s...? :g: )

2019 - 2022 Corolla in uk only has tachometer rpm, no power meter available. Some other markets have power meter instead, or option to switch between.
2023 model has fully digital dashboard with power meter, picture to the right, and these are the best.

My Auris has an old school power meter and next to it’s the engine/battery energy monitor, together I can see how much power I use and with throttle control, push more or release a bit I can actually choose how to accelerate, ev only, ev and petrol or petrol only.
The car does it automatically, but I can adjust if I need to and doing so prevent these unpleasant and unnecessary high rpm from the engine and power split device, often described as screaming cvt.

When joining motorways and we are gaining speed on the slip road pushing the accelerator slightly more than usual can add extra help from the electric motor and equalised the power needed to accelerate , it’s kind of like locking up torque converter, or locked differential,  ev and petrol rotating at similar rpm and deliver maximum torque available from both e motor and petrol engine which means more power, less noise and better efficiency.
Here is why tachometers aren’t suitable, because if you push more 4500-5000 rpm , actually you aren’t getting these rpm but you are getting more kw from the electric motor instead.
The new models gen5 are superior to previous generations because of the electric side mostly, and the ability of the electric motor to match the rpm of petrol engine and the new li-ion Battery power supply., higher density.

Here an example. With red on power meter is how much power I use when joining motorway and on the energy monitor is where the power comes from, both shows arrows from petrol engine and Battery. Slight adjustment of accelerator press will either add or remove any help from the Battery and on that will depend how the car accelerate and the noise. If the hybrid Battery is low at that exact moment the engine will scream at very high rpm and the electric motor will not push the car, installed the engine now has two things to do , to accelerate and to recharge the battery. In these scenarios best way is to floor the accelerator and the car will switch to full power from both engine and battery , gain speeds quickly and then recharge the battery.
Toyota hybrids are very unique cars and a lots of fun to drive but first you need to learn about them and how they work and then you can enjoy their full potential. 👍
