I purchased a used Corolla yesterday and the last service was due 8 days ago (purely because it was sat on the forecourt for 3months). It’s under the mileage requirements, fortunately.

Apparently Toyota UK accept anything upto a 13month interval between services, anyone know if this is accurate?

Ive booked it in for a service on Thursday regardless

Servicing is either 12 months or 10,000 miles, whichever occurs first. So in your case the mileage element is neither here nor there.

Doubt whether there is anything specifically in writing about leeway as Toyota already specify what the service intervals are.

If it was bought from a dealer, why wasn't it serviced before you had it?

Agree with Mike, normally used car is serviced and mot'd, etc when sold to customer ?

My car was the demo, bought at 13k miles and 13 months old. We discussed the 10 year warranty then they mentioned they would get it serviced! Never gave it a thought that it had exceeded any intervals because of the forgoing discussion.

Up to 3 years old though isn't the warranty not dependent on service history?  So at the end of 3 years as long as you get it serviced at Toyota you then get year 3-4 warranty, then service again and get 4-5 and so on., regardless of what's happened in the first 3 years?

Provided the mileage limit hasn't been exceeded, a 2020 car (as per the OP's) will have the remained of the 5 year/100,000 mile new car warranty. So although still dependent on having a 'correct' service history, the service generated Relax extended warranty won't apply until sometime in 2025.

Under manufacturers cover:

0-5 years pre June 2021

0-3 years post June 2021

There is a leeway of up to 1 month 1000 miles, the same does/will NOT apply within the Service activated warranties where the policy cover is strictly limited to applicable service schedule. e.g.

Most models 1 year / 10000 miles

Auris, Avensis, RAV4 & Verso with #WW diesel engine 1 Year / 12500 miles

Supra 2 Year / 20000 miles

Mk1 Proace 1 year / 20000 miles

Mk2 Proace 1.6 & 2.0 2 Year / 25000 miles ( Euro 6 & 6.1 engine spec )

Mk2 Proace 2.0 180 Auto 1 Year / 20000 miles ( Euro 6 & 6.1 engine spec )

Mk2 Proace 1.5 2 Year / 25000 miles ( Euro 6.2 on engine spec )

Mk2 Proace 2.0 all variants 2 Year / 30000 miles ( Euro 6.2 on engine spec )

So this means my warranty should be okay? (5year/100000) Sorry a-bit slow today 😂

You make a good point, there aren’t any stamps in the service book. But I’m pretty sure they mentioned it being serviced.

I’ve rescheduled my service to next Saturday to confirm whether it was serviced by them or not.

Assuming it was, it doesn’t need to be serviced at a Toyota dealership for the 5year warranty to still be valid?

Hi,

you can register my Tapp or on Toyota website and use your account to add your car so you can check all previous services or any other work ever done to your car. It’s online. It takes up to a week or more to update after an actual service been carried out. However physical inspection is the best way to go. Items to check are oil condition and colour, if new gotta be very clean and crystal clear, if yellowish , brownish or darker means it’s old. Air filter at 3 years best to be replaced and same for the cabin filter located behind the glovebox. Check these and confirm with dealer the car was serviced indeed before handed to you. Many dealers just saying they did while actually they hadn’t and this could lead to future troubles.

Correct, although in the event of a subsequent warranty claim the onus is on you to keep evidence (service checklist, receipts, etc) that it has been serviced at the correct intervals, parts used of equivalent standard, etc.  A stamp in the service book won't be sufficient.

Taking the above into consideration, I've always felt the best approach with OEM warranties is to simply stick to dealer servicing until either it expires or you're prepared to let it lapse, whichever comes first.

Seriously thinking about keeping mine long-term and I can't decide if the 'relax' warranty is for me or not, after the initial three years are up. As a DIY mechanic, I detest entrusting the maintenance of any of my vehicles to a stranger and would rather not do so even if it weren't costing a penny more than DIY, but there are other factors to consider.

Well, as I did another service recently on my car I also stamp the book myself every time I work on and I did looked back I have 5 Toyota main dealer services from 2010 to 2015 and since then a 23 diy services, mixtures of intermediate and full.
If we accept a £250 average price per service and multiply by 23 we have £5750 savings. Let say my one diy service average cost is £100 = £2300 for service in 8 years period and 200000 miles.
5750-2300= £3450 total savings through out my ownership and doing it myself. This is enough to buy a new hybrid Battery, inverter , transmission or engine if I need to.
Although the car is 13 years old and corrosion is eating it away and if any of these events comes into play will most likely write off the car and I will need to buy a new one. But overall very happy so far.

Yep. The dealership couldn’t actually remember if they’d serviced it and what they’d done. I figured it was best to play it safe and it was done at my local dealership.

Quite bad considering the dealership in question was a main Mazda dealership 💀
