2002 GX Auto - Gearbox problem.

Hi

Sorry if this has been discussed before , I am new to this forum.

My car has fairly recently appeared to 'hesitate' between changing in low gears , it seems fine in higher gears.A solid orange / engine  light has come on.

I took it to a local mechanic whose view was that it would be too expensive to fix and if I didn't mind a bumpy ride in low gears then to just keep on driving it.

I would welcome any thoughts on this opinion.

Have you checked ATF level and condition..?

I am completely clueless about cars so I could only ask the mechanic to do so if you think this might be worth investigating.
