Hello everyone!

I have an issue with adding an extra light bar which will be connected to my high beam. While trying to locate the high beam wire (which I was going to steal the signal from), I found out that my aygo uses HIR2 lamps, which has the headlight and high beam on the same wire. So the issue will be that when I drive normal without the high beam on, the extra lightbar will be on constantly when the normal headlights turn on.

Trying to solve this issue, I googled around but found nothing, not even any info if the car has canbus or not.
Has anyone solved this issue?

Thanks!

Not sure what effect that the extra high lights will have on meeting other drivers, is there a possibility of momentarily blinding them.

It will just be on when I manually switch on the high beam, just to get some extra bright light in the dark

Hi Erdin and welcome to the board.

From your profile you are not based in the UK and I've noticed that a lot of Scandinavian countries use extra driving lights/lightbars, they are fitted to most Swedish Police cars, so they must be OK there.

This goes back to my youth when, after installing a radio/stereo, fitting a pair of Cibie or Hella "Spotlights" was the way to go.....Happy but foolish days!

Anyway, if you are in doubt, how about using the old school method of a direct feed via a seperate switch on the dashboard and a relay to wire them up.

It's maybe not the result that you were looking for but it would by-pass the headlamp wiring and avoid doubt and problems.

I hope that helps in some way, all the best!

This reminds me of buying a brand new Mark2 Ford Escort car, it was a beautiful green colour with a black vinyl roof. I decided to add a pair Cibie spotlights with 100watt bulbs, which went out when I dipped the headlights. After adjusting the beams on the white painted gable of the house I headed out our narrow country road for a test run. A few minutes later I met another car and automatically dipped the lights however, the other driver didn’t dip his, so I hit him with all I had completely blinding him so he had to pull in to the side and stop. To my complete amazement it was a marked police 🚔😳. I was further amazed when they didn’t do a u-turn and pursue me 😁. I think the reason that they didn’t was the driver realized he didn’t dip his own lights and blamed himself. I was certainly relieved anyway 😊

Thought I could share these pictures if someone would need some help in the future. I discovered that I could steal the signal from the black cord, that goes to the most rearward contact of the headlight. This cable only signals 12V when the high beam is on, even with the low beam on. The blue cable is from the extra relay (belong to the extra light), stealing the signal with the help of a power thief.

So now the extra added light is only lighting up when the high beam is turned on.
