First impressions.

I cannot understand the logic of supply a first aid kit (mainly a lot of bandages)in with my safety triangle and they can only afford to put one driver seat pocket for rear passenger and no pocket on the passenger side. They provide 2 tow hooks, for a car that cannot be towed, why 2

I did not find there was no maps until I purchased it .

A lot of discussion in other forums about no spare wheel, there is ample room to fit one which I obtained from a breaker.

I purchase a CD player which slots in nicely in to the phone pocket but uses up the only data socket, so I cannot plug my phone or USB stick in to it

Come on Toyota use some common sense, talk to people

Don't forget the super ugly, low resolution reversing camera...

Yep, poor quality camera resolution and no dynamic parking lines either, just a static view

I've been driving for over 30 years and have never needed a spare tyre. Toyota are just doing what other manufacturers do and it's fine by me. I'd rather have the extra boot space and slight weight reduction. Also means one less thing to check as part of my regular maintennance.

You could just rip your CDs to a thumb drive and use that. You can get dozens if not hundreds of CDs worth of music on a thumb drive.

I use bluetooth to stream music from my phone to the car.

I'll grant though that they should have been more generous with USB sockets and the reversing camera is a bit low-tech.

... and not even good static lines at that. They're jagged and unhelpful (significantly wider than the car).

This makes the camera a much less useful reversing aid than it should be, especially for a car that is so advanced in other areas and at this price point.

By thumb drive I assume you mean USB memory stick

If I use this I have no USB for my phone to use Google maps because there is no installed maps in the info system

The spare tyre thing is just to get the official CO2 figures down - You should be thankful as you'd be paying more 1st years tax otherwise!

At least they left a space and the ability to buy it afterwards.

I do wish the tests would exclude safety things like the spare wheel tho', as it just encourages manufacturers to not include them, when IMHO it should be mandatory equipment like airbags and seat belts!

I have several hours of music on the phone. Most of the time I stream it to the car using bluetooth but if I need navigation I attach the phone using a USB cable then Android Auto gives me the same music capability and I have Google Maps on the infotainment unit.

Even my brother in laws Dacia Duster, costing half the price of the Toyota, has a better quality reversing camera and dynamic parking lines. Also has 360 degree cameras.

To be fair it isn’t Toyotas fault you didn’t do enough research before you bought the car.

I’ve not had any issue with the things you mention so I guess for some people it just isn’t a problem.

To be fair I did my research and knew about these things before I bought the car (it was still the best fit for what I wanted). That doesn't negate their disappointment value, they just weren't deal breakers.

Absolutely agree that some people will never have had a reversing camera before or want to play music from anything other than the radio, so they won't be bothered by them.

The reversing camera is perfectly fine though. Not sat there watching a movie through it or driving for hours in reverse.

also my reply was to the op who didn’t know it had no maps and also didn’t realise using an external cd player would use up the only data usb slot.

All of which proper research would have highlighted and then he may have been able to buy a car that more suits his needs.

Also the bluetooth function is great for playing music, and the modern cars have Apple car play. Loads of options for playing music

i was surprised that the parking lines are not dynamic as in previous cars but to be honest i rarely use it as i always reverse using the mirrors, however the lines are better wider than the car if the lines fit the gap so will the car.

I agree in principle, but they're actually wider than the parking spaces I use. I find that this makes it more difficult to place the car accurately.

I use the mirrors too, unfortunately that reminds me that they don't dip automatically when I put the car in reverse...

The reverse camera is perfectly fine, I don't rely on it I just use it as a 4th observation point after my 3 mirrors. I don't want to lose the skill of driving by driving aids. Years ago I had a car with hill assist, it would not roll backwards when I released the brake to press the clutch and accelerator. The car after didn't have this option and I had to think about hill starts again. I am all for car tech but I don't want to rely on it.

I've long wondered what the vertical lines were supposed to be for - You'd assume the sides of the car or the wheel tracks but they're well out for those. If I park with the lines on the kerb, I'm so far out I almost need a taxi to get from the car to the kerb!

However, I've noticed they align with the sides of most parking bays in e.g. supermarkets and retail parks. I agree it would have been a lot better if they were dynamic tho'.

I'm with you about not relying too much on car tech - I find it much harder to place the car using the reverse camera and either kerb the wheels or am out by a foot from the kerb! The proximity sensors going off when there is still several feet of space doesn't help either and throws off my judgement!

I am trying to get back into doing it how I always did it before, looking behind and using the mirrors and ignoring everything else until I'm too close to see. It's tricky in the Mk4 because the rear visibility is so bad

Another thing happened to me today and its the first time I have experienced it. I was turning left from a junction but the proximity sensor was triggering, I was nose out and the car wouldn't accelerate. The car accelerated again after I lifted of the pedal and tried again. Luckily I had loads of space on the road and nothing was near me, if I had chanced it and pulled out on a busy road I could have been in trouble.

On a couple of occasions I have had the brake alert appear and the car will stop you before you hit something (I Think). However you hear that alert and you look at the dash which takes your attention away from the road for a split second.

Car aids are brilliant and have come a long way but sometimes they wobble.

It's difficult to do research because there is so many different models,  turns out my Estate is really a Sports Tourer.

What is the top of the range and the bottom of the range.

Where does my Luna fit in

In Ireland - different to the UK - the grade progression currently seems to be Luna, Sol, GR Sport.

The term 'Touring Sport' has been used by Toyota for estate versions of cars for around 10 years - including the previous Auris and Avensis ......

This will depend on what wheels sizes you have and any tinted windows on the rear. Toyota ie has changed the trim specs in the last two years.
If your car is called just Luna with 16” wheels and no tinted windows it is the base model like Icon in uk.
If it’s called Luna sport with 17” wheels , currently called sol it is then the uk design spec equivalent. Currently you have only 3 options in Ireland- Luna, Sol, and GR Sport .
