Touch 2 & Go - give up!

I bought a map update from an eBay seller last September.  ebay.ie/usr/fahadshaikh10   The installation process was flawless. But over the past 12 months I've begun to trust the satnav less and less. Perhaps the original map software had it's faults, but I never seriously doubted the instructions. But this one....

Absolutely stupid directions, from a main road: "Turn next left" and it's a pedestrian alleyway.  "Turn next right, then left... then right and next left... etc" A look at a physical map shows I could have stayed on the main road and done a single right turn.

Sometimes the instructions say "
Drive straight ahead at the next junction" but the map on the display shows I should take a left turn at the junction.

On a several occasions it's taken me to totally the wrong place - many miles from the intended location. "You have arrived at your destination" which is meant to be a trading estate but I'm looking at a row of Victorian houses in a cul-de-sac. (I checked the postcode I'd given - it was correct.) Always had to ask a pedestrian where I should go. It did this a few days ago and I ended up arriving late for a presentation I was giving to 57 people.

I've given up on it and just purchased a Garmin Drive Smart. (Free map updates for life.)

I bought it from eBay seller in Ireland. So, far never have trouble. The MAP navigation in Toyota is indeed sometimes very silly. I have this problem from the original map before updates and also the newer map.

There is nothing wrong with the map or software version we downloaded since all are from Toyota Europe websites. Only the passcode is not and has nothing to do with the map or software.

I bought it from an eBay seller in Ireland too.  I didn't know if the eBay copy was one of those "cheap maps on eBay..." and so had many errors. Or if - simply - the Toyota mapping system was pretty useless. Either way, I wasn't going to waste any further time or money on Toyota maps - hence the Garmin.

I doubt there is any different version than what Toyota officiall map.  The Navigation is generally fine for me. Some new roads and speed limits are not actual but 95% are fine.

The GPS have tendency to give the safest route and often overdetour. Sometimes, it was updated during  the construction detour of the roads. It is true especielly in big cities in Germany that have continue road works. When the roadworks finished, the NAVI still offer the detour routes.

That's why new Toyota by Air service works much better, as good as Waze or Google Map.

I never update Toyota map since 2019 and works just fine for most cases. No need to spend for upgrade since I can always use my phone in special occasions. The traffic alert surprisingly works well via phone internet with Touch and Go2.

So, I still use it 95% of the time.

I think there are sometimes bugs in the map data. Last year I updated the map file in my wife's C-HR from the official Toyota site, and did the same update for my Avensis but bought that update from an eBay seller. Both car's satnavs then repeatedly tried to send us down a proposed new link road which the local council haven't even built yet! Installing the subsequent update in the C-HR six months later fixed that issue (the Avensis has since been sold).

Yes, the old  Toyota map system update is indeed stupid. They put retour and road closing base on what they see although they are temporary routes caused by construction.
