Hello all,

I am dutch and a new member in this forum and I need your help.

I have a Toyota Avensis model t27 from 2012.
Lately several warning lights go on and i get messages like "Check VSC system" and "Check Park break system"
Also Engine warning light and exclamation mark. It seems that power steering is not always working.

Please let me know where to look for the problem.

Regards,

Toon

VSC, Vehicle Stability Control - cuts power to certain wheels to improve traction.

Parking Brake (electronic on t27 Avensis) problematic over time / can stick or fail.

These two might be related, I'd check brakes front and rear. And test the handbrake and check it works. Listen for any big noise as it might be the actuator on its way out. Toyota replaced mine in warranty due to the loudness of it.. might be a sign it's on its way out if yours is faulty / about to fail.  Brakes might have dirt or grit or something wore out triggering the VSC issue ?

Engine warning light, see if you have any friends with an OBD scanner to check what this relates to, might also be triggered by the other warnings.

Power steering - electric if I'm not mistaken. If the Battery is weak or alternator struggling, this is usually one of the first electric systems to be sacrificed - does a restart bring it back on?  If so, might be a weak Battery or alternator. Maybe have it tested by a mechanic or at a local Halfords

Just some thoughts, hopefully more people (with the same model and age) can also comment and help, keep us updated

The check parking brake warning seems to be shown for all kinds of problems, many completely unrelated to the parking brake. It seems to be a general purpose "something is wrong" message. You need to read the error codes from the OBD system to discover what is actually wrong.
