Hello, I am new here, we have a 2011 Urban Cruisrer 1.4D, we had an intermittent limp mode issue and had the DPF and Cat prfessionally cleaned costing over £600.00 , But the limp mode came back again intermittently almost imediately, but the vsc, check engine etc lights are constantly on now and the code is still showing "DPF is blocked". During the clean the O2 sensor on the cat was replaced a pressor sensor etc.   The Garage says the EGR valve is working fine too.   The fault codes can be reset and cleared but they come back on within a few miles and car goes into limp mode again.  the limp mode only affects it going up hill and it appears 4WD is engaged constantly?   The Garage are now saying the best way to cure it is to map out the dpf.   But we won't to find what the fault is and fix it properly.  The car has only done just over 80000 miles Can anyone help?   Its so frustrating as when its not in limp mode it runs great with plenty of power.

Hi - We have 2011 1.4 D4D Urban Cruiser. 3 or 4 months ago showed service light for couple of weeks (nothing obvious - reason) then VSC / 4wd / skid lights all on and in limp mode.

Garage hooked it up and got reading of 140% blocked DPF (don't know how a figure can be over 100%?) they got chemicals and cleaned and forced regeneration. Car running brilliant - they did say they were concerned it may re-occur!? ran fine for 8 weeks then service light started to come on intermittently (and then go off) and has done past 4/5 weeks until today when yet again all lights on and in limp mode.

My wife drives it 60 mile round trip on a mixture of mostly A road & dual carriageway 3 or 4 days a week (so optimal driving)

Seems like this is a re-occurring  problem for multiple people and no conclusive solution by any garage / toyota / owners. Such a shame with an otherwise excellent little 4WD that gets 50mpg and is cheap to insure. booked for MOT in 4 weeks but probably no point if this can't be economically resolved

The DPF was the worst thing to happen to diesel cars

Hi guys.  As the car is due it’s Mot.  We still have driven it all year with the limp mode on 80% of the time.  So I cleaned the DPf with Wynns spray in foam cleaner.  And still couldn’t clear the P2643 & C1201 codes.  Put it into another local garage. Who tried clearing the codes.  This failed and they tried a forced regen.   It transpires that the Urban cruiser has to be driven to perform a forced regen.  The garage did a moving forced regen.  The cleared the two codes and reset the DPF values etc.

It’s only lasted 180 miles and the limp mode and lights are back.  Learning now that when a forced regen is carried out it is advised to change the oil.  Also leant that the glow plugs may need changed.  But there are no other fault codes showing and the car starts first time every time.  It’s only done 89000 miles.  So frustrating that no one can determine what is causing this continual problem.   When the limp mode is off the engine runs perfectly.

any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

Sounds like you have the same issue we've had (and many many others). Yes the oil was changed when forced regen done after chemical cleaning of DPF (apparently when it can't regen it starts dumping fuel into sump ? so oil shows as too high and really needs changed)

I have just been out a run - blootering it in 3rd at 3/3500 rpm but to no avail. its just not economic to have to spend £3/400 once or twice a year

Whats frustrating is there appears no permanent fix (whatever the cost) to the issue or preventing with certainty it reoccurring

As posted above it drives great when not reached the total block / limp mode phase.

with other cars (Citroen C3) when DPF was issue would show warning light - and annoying as it was a 20/30 mile drive @+50mph and it would regen/reset fine (i know this was in part my wifes short journeys and driving style at the time)

but currently longish commutes on quick roads and its still not been enough.

I think it will be getting sold 'spares or repair' next week as cant see an option - maybe someone who does mechanics themselves and can remove and chemical clean when needed  it would be fine but with £250/300 of labour at a garage its not

😞
