Avensis 2.0 d4d oil consumption

Hi! I have a 2.0 d4d avensis (1cd-ftv engine) it has great power and runs great, no turbo noise or anything. I've been noticing some oil consumption, this last time I checked it was about 500ml in 1000Km. There is also no oil in the intake or air filter and no leaks of any kind. Are there any other possible cause than worn piston rings? There is no smoke from the dipstick and i get great power (I only notice some black smoke when accelerating hard), I tend to believe rings are not the problem even though they probably are... In the last 8k km i had to add about 0.5l twice so i believe it's not a consistent amount.

Hi, sorry, forgot about that 🙂. The car is second hand (bought from a family member) the car was always taken care of, it has about 350k km. It has used 10w40 for a long time (at least last 150k km) I believe that when my mechanic changed it he also used 10w40. As for the oil brand I'm not sure, i've been re-filling with motul.

Also, right after buying it, it had a complete service, valve cover gasket replaced, injector seals replaced, water pump and timing belt and a few other things

as i was you, i wouldn't touch nothing, you can change to oil 20W50 then you wont need to add 500ml every 1000km, maybee 500ml every 2000km. i would check this out for one change and see the results and the decide or i would probably buy one gallon of 20W50 and start to add from it each time ....

Oil usage may even go higher with thick oil grades. Best to check what was the oil that the car came out of the factory and buy high quality engine oil within exact specs. Run an engine flush and replace oil and filter. Keep, checking frequently and add oil as usual and use the car li,that until dies completely is the best option. Then decide either new used imagine or rebuild or just scrap the car and move on. Any used car at these km will burn oil. It is a inevitable process of metal wear from friction. Wrong type oil used from early years only accelerate this process. The correct oil might be 5w30 A5 .
