The picnic, i think has a small headlight. does not look big to me. Its not as comfortable as my previous car - corolla (or my mom used to say "Kong long la" which means monster in Cantonese). I am trying to get use to it - parking etc.. Think I will still go back to sedan once my kids have grown up.

Take it easy when parking or going up nad/or down parking lot...Take your time to adjust yourself..It happened to me too..used to drive manual..

Dear Ajyong;

This is the new model 2.4 cc...great car..mine is 2.0cc..previous model

BTW, how much is in Singapore?..Its about RM215K in Malaysia.

I wanted this one but can't afford..too expensive!!!

I read some reviews on this new car..great car...

Matnor, I got the 2.0 Li engine. The 2.4 cost at least 12k more. Mine was 99k Sing dollar. After I bid, it dropped 1k haa haa. so its 98k on the price list now.

Hmm..now I know!..your car has new engine 16 Valve IAZ-FE c/with VVTi..mine is running on 3S-FE engine 16 Valve DOCH without VVTi.

Your car is quite powerful/responsive and very good on fuel consumption..

Posted

oh ic. i thought that yours was a vvti. Don't think the fuel consumption is way different from yours. Seems like its about 10 km/litre too. So vvti or not - not that major a different compared to yours. :)

Posted

VVTi is an intelligent mechanism making use of the variable valve timing to increase power and torque of a car and consumes less gassoline..normal engine like 3SFE is mannualy optimized by tyhe engine designer to work in the 4000 - 6000rpm while vvti works in the low and also high rpm automatically by adjusting itself..that's what I know/understand..

in short..car with vvti or its variant should be more powerful/responsive while consumes less petrol...

Matnor,

Thanks for the info. :) Hope so that its the case with vvti. Response is pretty good i think. So far so good. Will see how is it when the load is higher.. more passenger.

Posted

wow! to get to 4000 rpm, that is pretty high rev! Usually 2800 to 3000 rev is the normal rpm in normal driving.

Hmm..thats to get into racing mood...

Posted

in short..

Toyota's VVT-i (Variable Valve Timing - Intelligent) has been spreading to more and more of its models, from the tiny Yaris (Vitz) to the Supra. Its mechanism is more or less the same as BMW뭩 Vanos, it is also a continuously variable design.

However, the word "Integillent" emphasis the clever control program. Not only varies timing according to engine speed, it also consider other conditions such as acceleration, going up hill or down hill.

:P

Matnor.. looks like I should have got the Honda Stream.. :( it uses i-VTEC --- equivalent to VVTL-i of Toyota). Better fuel economy and power output. One thing about the Stream though.. don't look as pleasing as the picnic. :)

 Hmm..looks at the bright side of it..
Posted

always look on the bright side of things.. da dum da dum da dum da dum!! haa haa.. actually i would say stream is pretty ugly looking..

:lol::lol::lol:

haahaa..I do agree with you...

Posted

don't think the honda stream afficiando would be happy to see my remark.. haa haa.. but as you agree the stream don't look as cool as the picnic.. viva la Picnic.. haa haa. How was merdeka day? Viva la Malaysia!! :)

Posted

Hmmm.. B) ..don't bother to think about them...

The Merdeka day was great...huge traffic jam... :D

Hi ajyong & matnor

I just saw your thread today. Glad to see you guys doing yr part in improving cross strait relation.

I sold by Mitsubishi Spacewagon 2.4 & got the same Picnic2.0 in March 04. Any way I stumble into you guys as I am looking to see if guys know where the oil filter is. My 10k service is coming & I want to put in a new oil filter & synthetic oil. But I just can't find the damn thing!! If u know, pse tell me where exactly where I can get my hands on it.

BTW, aj I think you made a good choice with the Picnic. After the first model, which I think was badly packaged, Toyota has improved all the shortcoming.

1)space is greatly improved (overall size) & also clever tricks like the spare wheel below the front pax seat, deep boot well.

2)neat rear aircon which the Stream does not have.

3)split middle row & split folding 3rd row which folds flush sure beats the Mitsu

I need space not speed so this suits me fine. For speed go get a MRS.

I think the toyota is most reliable. (I have owned 1 Mit, 2 Honda & 1 Nissan & 1 Toyota B4)

But I find the consumption a little high & no better than my old Mit.

At best I manage 9.9 Km/l. Normally its about 9 Km/l & I drive very gently. How are you doing on this front?
