Any experience with Toyota Minor Damage Protection?

Hello all,

I appreciate this topic is not strictly Rav4 related but this appears to be one of the most visited forum and the car this would apply to is a Rav4.

Does any of you have experience with Toyota Minor Damage Protection?

Thanks all in advance,

LD

I've only used the dealer one, do you mean that or one done by Toyota head office?

https://www.toyota.co.uk/insurance/minor-damage-protection offered by the dealer, all Toyota branded but underwritten by someone else.

Toyota tend to use Aloi Nissay Dowa Insurance for their insurance products - vehicle insurance, etc.

Most manufacturers contract with a separate insurer in the same way.

Yes, I had Smart repair via the dealer itself.  I never used it though.

Wouldn't bother again as it didn't seem to make any difference to the trade in price.  The dealer didn't care about scuffs as they'd just sort them before putting the car on the forecourt.  I think it's just another thing they stick on the bump up the profit on the PMP.

It is also basically the same service as ChipsAway and similar companies, and a lot of them offer a form of insurance too, often cheaper than Toyota.  It's not free as you always have to pay something, you just get a massive discount on the first few times you clain.

Thank you, this makes sense and seem to be the general consensus.

I had something like this a couple of years ago. Paid around £150 then I used it for a minor scuff. It had to be below a certain size and used it once and paid £10 for it to be fixed by a paint chipping van. Didn’t bother to renew after first year.

I’ve used ‘chips away’ a couple of times prior to selling the car, excellent job. I do recognise that it’s a franchise so not all experiences would necessarily be the same. Very simple no hassle, no negotiation or paperwork etc.

  • 3 weeks later...

I used it when I was about to pass on my last RAV4.4 I had a nasty graze quite large, and used the standard body repair insurance. It was easy to contact, book and the guy came to my drive, put a tent over the car, and did a great repair.

He said I could have asked for all the other blemishes to be repaired as well, so stone chips. Bau car was going to be part exchanged for new RAV4.5 I didn’t really need to have the work done, but was curious to see how well it worked, and it was good.

I cannot remember the initial insurance cost which I believe covered 3 years. Must have been £250 plus I think.
