Hello my friends !

I'm from France and I have a new Yaris 4 hybrid since 2 months ;)

I'm very happy with it but I have juste a strange noise when braking at low speed..

If never you have the same thing of could explain this it'd be great and I would sleep better

Thanks so much !!

This is the noise :

What is the condition of the brake rotors in regards of rust.

If its only applies to light/moderate braking then its only the rear brakes.

If you open the window you can confirm that if from the rear.

Thank you for your message!

In fact the car is new (2 months) so I imagine the rotors are perfect ?

The noise appears at low speed when I press strongly the pedal (without triggering the ABS) and I feel a little vibration of the brake pedal.

☺️

Just because it new it maybe was standing for 4 month prior but I expect it will just bed in the feedback on the brake pedal is just abs/ anti skid system balacing out the wheels when it settles down your braking system will feel normal but you can still the abs system working under slippery conditions.

That’s just the electric motor assisting the braking.  If you accelerate hard from stopped, it will do the same noise.

@anchorman thanks for your post! in fact it not the 'viouuuuuu' sound but the 'crrrrrrrrrr' following, and at the same time the brake pedal slitghly vibrate ;)

@Derek.w ok for you it is probably the ABS system :) I would be curious if other Yaris hybrid users could make an audio of braking at low speed, if we hear the same noise.. thank you again for your explanation !

I don't have the crrrr sound, I've got another annoying one lol, I posted here before and couldn't figure out what it is, people suggested it could be brake dust/rust.

I'm not sure what yours is or why it happens, you said it's a brand new car so perhaps nothing to worry about cuz warranty and that, but you mentioned vibration as well, sorry I don't know other than saying that I could pin point the "crrr" one and that I don't experience it.

On the video there are the typical noises from regenerative braking, brake booster pump but there is also another slightly strange clunky noise followed by the booster pump. If that’s something to be further researching  on, or it’s just from pressing the brake pedal., but sounds to me like abs pump in action which shocks not be presented. When abs or stability control got activated then after the booster pump is pressuring again. Best to try again and look at the dashboard for any yellow warning lights. Or try another Yaris at the dealer to compare.

@Serban thank you for your post !

@TonyHSD wow your explanation is complex I believe I am not as expert as you for this, but yeah I agree the only way is to try a similar model and compare, hope I will have a chance to do that, or ask someone on this forum to brake quite strongly at low speed and share his sound ☺️

I noticed something similar on mine. It's driving me mad as I can't locate it, but it sounds to be coming from the front right. The best way I could describe it is like small loose stones hitting the wheel arch, but it only occurs at very low speed under light/moderate braking.

I think this is normal, on my new MK4 get the noise also under braking at really low speed before coming to a stop. Just a toyota hybrid thing I would say.

I'm happier knowing it is not just me. Curiously, I'm not aware of hearing this noise from the Cross.

Yes if all Toyota hybrid users could make an audio when braking at low speed it would be much intersting !

I've now got my car back (and the repair is so good you can't see where the holes were). :yahoo:

I heard the noise again this evening. It sounds like the brake shoes just moving the tiniest amount in the calipers. Once it has done it moving forwards, it didn't do it again, but it did do it after I reversed parked!!

I hear it often because I always reverse park everywhere.

  • 1 year later...

I solved this by replacing the front pads on my 2022 Yaris.  I fitted Brembo pads that come with metal shims that the Toyota pads do not.  They are clearly a much higher quality brake pad with more pad area against the disc.  Part number is Brembo P 83 185.
