Hi everybody! My headlights are so dull that I need to have my fog lights on to give me any visual help in the dark.  The lenses are quite yellow on my 2011 G version. I have seen that you can buy headlamp cleaning stuff, but do they work or is it best to get new light assemblies?

Using one of the many kits available through retailers such as Amazon, Halfords, etc should provide a reasonable solution, and far cheaper than new headlights. Have a look at the following topic:

Polish them up with a kit .

You could have a look at Scotty Kilmore video on YouTube that explains all.

Ok he is in the USA, but it's a good video.

And I think there are threads on here that go into it too.

It's worth a try first.

WD40 for a quick short term fix, white vinegar -baking soda and lemon juice mix  and a 10 minute scrub or a proper kit and as said above youtube tutorial ...

As above...use one of the many kits available.

I use one from Halfords (every 2/3 weeks) and it keeps my headlights pretty clear.

I found a car wash that did it for me, £20 and two cups of coffee in the garden centre.

You might be lucky too.

PS, it could be an MOT fail

Unless they apply a couple of coates of a UV proof lacquer you may find out its a very regular thing.

I did it the 'Scotty Kilmore Way' and within half-hour I had both lights looking clearer.  I can now see the road when its dark!  I didnt add the UV protection, but I will do the whole routine again and give it a good polish and give them a UV coat as well to hopefully maintain the clarity. Cheers for your help.

Glad that worked for you.

It's always good when there's a solution to a problem without spending a fortune on new parts.

I bought a small, inexpensive lacquer.  Only used it once, two coats.   No issues even a few years later.  Still have it on my shelf, must sling it.  It must be 10 years old now.

Love it! I have a small tin of lacquer still fresh and its stated as UV resistant so fingers crossed.
