I had a major service a few months ago and today i received a text saying my car needs some routine maintenance i haven't phoned the number supplied as i have a feeling they are gong to try to sell me something i dont need  if this was serious surely they would have said in the text.

Has anyone here had any experience of these random texts?

Well yes but having just spent the neck end of £400 on MOT and major service i will be really ****** off if they try to sell me something i dont need, my first time at a Toyota dealer was a good experience this may just sour it.

I can't guess what it might be, could be a software update or similar.

Have you checked the number of the text against the number of the servicing dealer? You could also call the servicing dealer and ask what it's all about.

Unless it's a premium rate number scam.

The whole world has.

If you get an unexpected text or email asking you to click a link or phone a number ... DON'T. Use a known means to contact whoever you think might be the legitimate source to find out if it is genuine. (And if it is genuine, berate them for being so stupid as to appear to be scammers.)

I will email them I can then ignore it if it's not important.

I agree with what @MikeSh says above, BUT, why does everyone insist on sending a text with a link to get me to do anything??

I flatly refuse to click on any link received in a text message, be it from a known source or not.

Indeed, I used to get a lot of texts from the HMRC saying I owed a lot of tax and to go to www1.dodgy-as-smeg.ru/gvusyrmny/?a19fbsupersecrettrackingcode3af3b34 to settle it....
