Door Check Strap - renewal

Recommended Posts

My 14-year-old driver's door check strap has died. RIP. The rubber has split and it no longer holds the door at all.

Toyota want to charge me £127 for a new one lol, so I'm taking a punt on this one (for a Toyota Corolla) being the same. Ebay Link

The specs are very similar and at £13 I'd be daft not to try it. I'll update the thread when it arrives.

Thanks again. I've never used Amayama - I really should, because I've heard other people on other car forums recommending them. Anyway - maybe my Corolla check strap will arrive tomorrow - and fingers crossed it's only a different part number because it's designated for a Corolla.

I've used Amayama twice now. They pack the orders very well and altogether seem like a very professional bunch. You get allocated a member of staff you can send messages to who oversee your orders (just be prepared to wait 24hrs for a reply).

I don't think it's really their fault but the freight is expensive. What I do is fill out my orders with lots of sundries like replacement fastners and clips to amortise the P&P and then my orders still work out cheaper on a per-part basis than the main dealer! It's a good feeling! One nice thing was getting a significant refund when the estimated UPS charges were far higher than reality. You do need to be patient however as they seem to take at least 7 days to get stock, at least from their Japanese suppliers and the whole process is somewhat leisurely. You can get a quote without commiting to purhase, then cancel it if the P&P is too exorbitant.

I took a punt on a Prius wing mirror glass the other day (the iQ one is very difficult to get right now unless you go aftermarket or pay a small fortune to mr T). I thought I'd got away with it until the glass got caught in the housing upon tilting the mirror. The glass and its backplate have one filleted edge with a larger radius in the Prius' case. There are universal iQ/Prius mirrors on eBay, suggesting part numbers might be equivalent, but I presume they're all made to the iQ pattern. Oh well, we live and learn!

I hope you get lucky with the check strap!

Online tracking tells me my Corolla door check strap should be delivered within the hour. Getting a bit excited! Will it fit or will it not? Oooooooohhhhhhhhhhhh...

Well, it's arrived and it looks very similar to the old one (new one on the left). The curve in the strap is slightly more pronounced, but I'm hopeful. All the dimensions look to be identical.

Give me an hour to fit it - I'll be back!

YAYYYYYY!!!

It fits perfectly and it works perfectly. I now have a door that opens like new!

£13.13 instead of £127.00 - I'm a happy bunny!

You can get it even cheaper - (£10) if you're prepared to wait for it to come from China.

Try telling yourself it's only a bl**dy door strap.

I'll just note the part number here, in case the eBay link in post#1 dies (as it will) - 68620-02061

I have a feeling the component is reversible and fits either the left or the right door.
