You should be able to splice it in

Perfect, so I can take the line from the original one! Thanks Bob

They only have one for safety reasons.  If somebody catches up in the fog they can mistake your car for having brake lights on and brake hard.

It's not a rule, some skoda or fiat has double rear fog light

and there is the third stop for a reason

I can understand that, but I thought cars only had one rear fog light because car companies were tight ar  wads. A few pennies saved here and there, mulitlied by 1000s of cars sold, adds up to quite a bit. 😉

It is true.  There are some cars with two but the trend is for one.

A couple of things would worry me about doing that:

1. Would a car of that age have CANBUS and could an addition cause problems?

2. Is that the same part as the original rear foglight and if not, would it look different and possibly confuse a following driver?

1. No canbus for any light at all

2. It is the same part from a dead yaris 2018

There is certainly that factor, but having two fogs would (realistically) mean having two reverse as well. That makes the cluster bigger.

Don't forget that any given design may be available in many markets and not all will mandate, or perhaps even allow, rear fogs. Much simpler to have a reverse/fog location on each side and change the detail to suit the market. You can call it penny pinching but those costs still end up on the sticker price.
