P00BD. EGR cooler?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, I have an Avensis 150D 2015 with the BMW engine. I started this weekend to try to find a leak in the admision pipes as I got an engine fault Code P00BD (too much air mass). I also have a P1443 DPF Code but this come and go so I decided to focus in the other one first. I also have too much oil burn (Isn't It the best engine...)

As I coudnt find any Ieak I thought maybe the EGR is blocked and this os causing too much air in the MAF sensor. So I took out the EGR and EGR cooler and it seem quite bloked therefore I Will send It to ultrasonic cleaning this week. Planning to do the same with the DPF later.

Before removing the EGR I took out some coolant and I was surprised it was kind of yellow. I thought in this engines It should be blue (I bought the specific ww2 toyota to add It and It was blue).

I attacheed some pictures of the fault Code with teachstream an some of the EGR.

Codes are a diagnostic aid

P00BD

Either condition is met (3 trip detection logic):

  • Measured air mass compared with calculated air mass too high for 5 seconds.

  • Measured air mass compared with calculated air mass too high and high boost pressure deviation for 5 seconds.

  •

  • Intake system air leak

  • Intake air temperature sensor

  • EGR valve assembly

  • EGR cooler assembly

  • Turbo pressure sensor assembly

  • ECM

You need to look at the live data for the following

  • Target EGR Position

  • Actual EGR Valve Pos

  • Intake Air Temp (Turbo)

P1443

  • Driven short distance

  • Oil level

  • Swirl control valve (very common issue that intermittently throws this code)

  • Differential pressure sensor

  • Exhaust manifold converter sub-assembly (DPF catalytic converter)

  • ECM

Thanks, I really apreciate It.

I forgot to say that when removing the ERG cooler one of the screws on the flange was a bit loose I thought maybe that was It... I hope It was but I Will clean It anyway.

And hopefully the P1443 was just a low oil level...

Hi, It took me some time but I can finally update the progress.

I reinstalled the EGR cooler with new gaskets. I only could do a little road test just to finish bleeding the coolant system but no fault codes so far.

Here are two pictures, one of the cooler after having been clean and the other of the gasket that i think was responsable for the Air leak.

This weekend I plan test the DPF to see how is it. I think I have an oil leak through the turbo. I found some oil in the intake pipe of the turbo, there is a picture of It also.

I forgot to say, the car has only 140000km (87000 miles).

How did things turn out with P1443?

I have the same code coming on, Originally the swirl flaps had sticking and triggering fault P1474 Jammed valve during of set learning, I removed the inlet manifold and cleaned out the carbon build up which solved the P1474.

One thing I notice is the DPF differential pressure sitting around -325 KPA. I'm thinking of locating the DPF pressure sensor to see if any pressure port blockage is occurring.

I haven't run teachstream since but the car is running fine without Amy warning light.

I'm keeping an eye on the car to check oil consumption and i Will chek dpf status just just in case It starts to get block but at the moment seems fine.

It doesn't seems right -325kpa there must be something wrong.

Just wondering how things turned out, has your car ran ok?

I have never got to the bottom of the P1443 code, there is not much info online regarding this code. I have tried a new differential sensor which made no difference to the pressure.  Then I got a skilled mechanic to check it out and he advised that P1443 could well be the DPF temperature getting to high during a regen, this occurs when the DPF begins to clog due to excessive oil usage leaking in from the turbo, he ran a DPF liquid solution clean out and found the car was able to regen.

The car went fine for one week and then I noticed a lot of power loss when out for a drive at the weekend, since then the power loss issue cleared and the car is driving normal. When I reconnected my diagnostic reader today, P1443 has came back, P00BD mass air flow to high is also occurring.

Not sure which way to turn, I'm thinking the turbo needs repaired or replaced to solve oil burn, and the DPF removed for clean out.

My is running fine, nor loss of power neither fault Codes. Only todo much oil burn (no smoke).

I noticed that while the oil is new there isn't much burn. It starts after 3000 km when the oil gets too soon too bad. I'm planing changing into 5w40.

P00BD in my case was EGR cooler being a bit loose (I think problem was done by dealer during EGR cooler campaing).

I had the EGR cooler replaced also but its a few years back, my car has got one hundred thousand miles on it now but oil usage has gotten worse, to be fair regular servicing every eight thousand miles did help a lot, I also use an engine flush at each service. as you state above.. the first 3000 Km is normally fine.

I think my next move will be turbo removal,  inspection and repair for oil ingress. I wouldn't mind knowing what the DPF deferential pressure is on another few 2WWs before I get the filter cleaned.

I have a 2ww with a fault code p00bd, the egr was at fault, replaced now by our mechanic, but the fault is still appearing shortly after resetting it. DPF differential pressure is -327kpa. I’d also be interested to know what others are seeing for DPF diff pressure. The last successful regen was 6 months and 1000km ago.

Could you tell <all> how did you manage to remove the EGR and cooler?

Thanks

Hi,

First you need to drain the coolant (not all off it, I took out 5 liters). Then you need to remove batery, Air box, MAF sensor and admision pipe.

I separated the EGR from the cooler maybe It isn't necessary. The small pipes surrounding the cooler you can just move them to remove the cooler.

I think that was all.

I haven't checked the car again since It is running well.

What software are you using? Maybe you are reading a channel not supported in this car.

Since the last post, The egr cooler was replaced under the Toyota recall. But I still have the p00bd fault. Evening after resetting the fault it comes back. The car is currently with a mechanic. I used a https://www.icarsoft.eu/CR-Max?gad_source=1 to read the data

I thought the EGR was at the back(belo the windscreen wipers), any pics where it is or is the WW2 different from the N47....

Thanks for the reply.
