Thanks for the reply. I understand what you are saying. I’m not looking for expensive diagnostics. Just something to tell what is wrong when it arises. I’m probably looking at the lower end of code readers.

Hi, 

an obd adapter and suitable phone app can be all you really need then. 
I have Carista, cheap adapter that can be paired with any android or Apple devices and works great with their own app, subscription required £10 for 3 months or £47 for a year. , with free 30 free trial. 
You can buy better adapter like obd link lx, or mx , they also work with Carista app. Other apps you can use Hybrid assistant, Dr. Prius both on android, good for checking hybrid Battery etc.

Lots of cheapies out there as @TonyHSD mentions, we have a simple hand held plug meter in with all the error codes fully detailed, no sub needed with them.

However , most of them just do the basic codes, they generally do not cover ABS and  SRS faults or Service Resets etc.

If you want something better / future proof and ones that cover many other makes and models have a look at the many readers at this site,  they are often mentioned as the goto place in the motoring mags.

Worth an email to phone call to them to see what devices cover your  current 2021 model.

Carista app with either the official adapter or a generic bluetooth reader. Beware, not all readers support the full functionality - I dropped lucky with one that cost a tenner and works perfectly. Haven't needed it for reading codes but I did disable the audible alarm for the seat belts as I find the dashboard warning light quite sufficient for that purpose.
