Ive had the engine oil change done yesterday at a local garage and the guy had put about 500ml extra oil than what it supposed to have which also very visible on the dip stick.

I couldn't bother to go back to the garage and so did drain 500ml out from the engine with a hand syringe via a plastic tube inside the dipstick hole.

I collect the excessive oil in to an empty plastic see through water bottle and the oil was super dirty. Pls see the picture attached. Why do you think the oil what I got via the dip stick hole was so dirty please?

I was there when the garage change the oil so he definitely drained the old oil out yesterday

Hi there Budz.

Looking at the colour of that oil you removed I'd say that it's contaminated by a fair amount of the old engine oil. If he claims to have over filled could it be that when he did the drain the car wasn't level, leaving a 1/2 litre still in the sump and/or he didn't leave the oil to drain off for long enough before refitting the drain plug. Was the filter changed at the same time?

Whatever, that oil in your bottle is contaminated. Would suggest you have another oil and filter change done fairly soon and maybe look for another mechanic.

I've seen oil in a diesel engine become dark quite soon after an oil change but doubt a petrol engine would discolour oil so quickly.

Has the mechanic forgot to drain the old oil before topping up with the fresh lubricant?

Id do another oil change to be on the safe side , do you know a family friend who could do it for you or help you do it yourself or ask if any one can recommend a decent local garage.

its not hard to do yourself a 14 mm spanner and a tub to catch old oil

I was there when the garage change the oil. He did drain the old oil first, and then changed the filter before before topping up with the new oil. They only drained the oil for about 5 minutes and closed the sump plug whilst it was still slightly drips but not excessively.  The car was lifted when drained the old oil.

Two other guys onnhere has also commented to do another oil change. Do you thinknif i diy it via the dipstick hole with a hand pump, is it still okay you rekon or does it need to be emptied voa the sump plug only?

It's impossible to see the condition of the oil properly from your picture.  As you saw the old oil coming out and new oil being put in, I would say that everything is above board.

If you have any doubts, you should go back to the place where the oil was changed rather than take advice here, based on a picture of some oil in a plastic bottle.
