Hey guys, Have any of you put a turbo kit on your 1ZR-FE engine? If you have can you please tell me how much boost can it handle with stock internals and did you change things like intake manifold? Because I know i could buy a normal turbo kit and all that but unfortunately I don’t really have a lot of money, so I’m thinking about buying a used turbo from another car and putting it in. I know where I can connect it to the exhaust but I’m not sure about the pipe that goes from intercooler to intake manifold, do I have to change the manifold or can I like merge it with my normal air intake tube? Also how about the ecu, can you recommend me something that won’t leave a hole in my wallet and get the job done?

Sorry for my bad english, I’m not a native speaker and sorry if some questions look stupid, this is my first project and I will be grateful for any tips 🙂

The biggest part to overcome is the mapping and injectors

as for a turbo it has to be from a petrol car (diesels tend to be high pressure turbos) you only want to run 6-8 psi max on stock internals

If you have a valvetronic engine (1ZR-FAE) these do not tune well, these are eco engines

what ever you think it will cost double it, Avoid Chinese turbos

Ohh I see, thank you for explaining, I do in fact have a valvetronic version, but it should help if cylinder head would be changed to let's say 1ZR/2ZR-FE, I saw i could buy one used for a reasonable price (correcting the timing is of course another thing but let's leave that for now). So if I were to pair my 1ZR block with 1ZR/2ZR-FE head (and of course the ecu would be changed) would that help? Or would I have to change something more? I've also seen people sell valvematic delete kits, that basicly lock the cams on high lift, would those help if I were to leave a stock head or is it just a waste of money?

The Lotus Elise use the 1.6 FAE supercharged that runs 136 bhp at the crank, so about the same gains as a 1.8 N/A go with a 1.8 swap or do the right thing and just get the car you want
