Aerial Splitter For Sat Nav

I have recently bought an upgrade to Sat Nav system on my Medion PDA. Now have Navigon 4 with TMC. Satellite reception is excellent but TMC varies according to location and where I set out from, home to work is fine work to home is less successful.

Provided aerial is a short length of cable which has two suction pads to stick to windscreen. Suggestions have been made that using car aerial will improve reception. Has anyone any experience of splitting radio signal in Yaris, how easy is it to do and any side effects of splitting signal is?
