2003 Yaris brakes feel very light and spongey

I know spongey brakes is never usually a good sign but i noticed it earlier driving to work and again driving back. My brake pedal is very sensitive (I don't feel alot of pressure before the brakes are braking) at the top of its travel but it doesn't really even feel as firm as I feel it should.

They feel like they work as normal and I did a little brake check on the way home and it didn't pull to one side or make any weird noises

I'm not that mechanically inclined and I don't have the tools to really check so I'll be trying to take it to a garage asap but was wondering if it's something that means I shouldn't be driving or not.

Cheers

Also this is my first car so other than the one I learned in I can't compare to any other cars to see if I'm just not used to it

I get the sense that nothing is wrong and if your brakes are working fine then you should be OK. Give it time, you are a new driver and maybe a wee bit apprehensive.
