Microphone mute symbol

I have recently upgraded my phone and have re-paired it to the car. Everything seems to work fine, except that I get a microphone muted symbol on the dash each time I start the car. 

Only option to clear is to press back button in the steering wheel, however this only works if I am in CarPlay mode. If I am not in CarPlay mode pressing back does nothing and the microphone muted symbol stays in the centre of the dashboard display.

I have checked phone permissions and everything looks correctly setup. I am not sure what could be causing this. Any ideas guys? No issues with old phone
