I have had my 2022 Yaris cross excel for a few days only.

From the start, the navigation does not work, I just get a message that the software needs updating:

I dutifully did as told, but then I get this:

So, on the one hand I'm told software needs updating then I'm told it's already up to date.  I have tried several times, all with the same result.

I have gone back to the main dealer, but no response from them yet.

Any ideas?

ours is still exactly the same ...not worked for months now and says software needs updating . It is due to go in to the dealers next month for servicing. Will let you know what the outcome is

I think @Roy124 had a similar issue some time back (but I can’t find the post now). 
If I recall he had to get his dealer involved.

Indeed I did back in March.   I went to the dealer who had no immediate solution but contacted Toyota.  They got a new update after about a month and it has been fine ever since.

Your only recourse it to contact your dealer.  If they don't have an immediate fix they should be able to get one from Toyota. 

Three incidents reported here is obviously not the whole problem.

My Sat Nav has not worked since I got the car in June.  Dealer saying they are waiting for a fix and other delay tactics.  First the sceen froze so they disconected the Battery. Now it jus talks nonsens like a mad women telling me to turn right while on the Motorway.  They don't seem to be bother about fixing it.

Ok thanks to all.  I should have added that yesterday it worked ok for about 10 to 15 mins, then reverted to the "software update required" screen.

I did wonder if it was a WiFi connectivity issue. My phone was in the car and connected via bluetooth.  Does that mean that the nav system can then access WiFi through my phone 4g signal?

Your phone may be linked for phone calls.  You may also use Android Auto for mapping and other functions.

As far as I am aware the Smart Connect system uses a different connection from your phone.

How does it get a WiFi connection if not through my phone?

Through it's own SIM.

In the App, under Garage, in Connected Services, I have standard services until 2032.  

Remote Services and Smart Services will expire in 2026.  This is 6 months before my contract expires whereupon I believe their is a subscription requirement. These are shown as trials.

Smart Services allows 'drive worry free with Internet updated navigation'

I am considering doing a factory reset on the system settings menu and see if that solves the problem.

What are the consequences of doing that.... What data will I lose?

You will lose all personal profiles,  stored radio settings, any data record such as drive data and revert to the original map data.

But visiting your dealer would be less painful

Not sure drive data and map data are affected by this. Map data for sure is a destructive upgrade overwriting the original data.

I can't say you are wrong but logically a factory reset does just that.  IIRC after my dealer update I had to restore radio channel data etc.

I should maybe have also said that clicking on the MyT button on the multimedia screen also gives me a "software upgrade needed".  

So would factory reset actually lose me anything at all as this has never worked?

Im my experience when partexing my vehicles on pcp i always factory reset to wipe the data. It never deletes the journey diary or the current map data. 
just my pennies worth

So going back to my original problem: both navigation and MyT functions say that a software update is required yet the software update function says all is up to date. 

Do you think that a factory reset which would presumably force a new software download, resolve the problem?

You have a problem that a reset will not fix.  As I said above,  speak with your dealer.

Ok thanks.  I have contacted the dealer, but no response yet.  I'll go in on Friday and see if they can fix it.

To update you all.  Car went back to the main dealer yesterday. Just had a phone call. Nothing they can do.  Apparently there is a software update due on 22 November that may or may not fix it.  So I have to collect the car and wait......

So it's now 7pm on 22nd in the UK and way past midnight in Japan.

No software update yet. This is what my screen looks like when I try and do a manual update....

It says I'm on version 1.22.011

Ian, a thought,  what media system do you have?  The problem I had was with Smart Connect.   It should of course be an OTA update.  In my case it became a garage job.

If you have the same update loop that I experienced it might be a garage job.  Also, a promised 22 Nov software release can easily drift if it fails tests.

Hi Roy, not sure what you mean by media system. I plug in my android phone and therefore use android auto.

I can, of course, use the maps there, but it is irritating that the Toyota system and the myT services don't work.

I did take it back to the dealer a couple of weeks ago, and they returned the car saying they couldn't do anything and to wait until the 22nd.

Do you know what the current software version should be? I have 1.22.011.

Ian. If you have the standard Cross media system it is Smart Connect.  If the car has the City Pack then it will have the earlier Touch 2 Go.

The Smart Connect should update automatically.

The update could be like some Windows update - only certain markets/locations get the update on (date), whilst another market/location will get the update a few days later ....... and so on. :question:
