Interior lights and keys

My car is garaged, I’ve noticed with these darker mornings that, as I walk up to the car the interior lights are on, is this because it’s sensing the key as I near the car, or is it when I pick the keys up and it’s sensing movement?, I should add, my garage is at the bottom of my garden so it’s a good few feet away, so, if I move the key it must have a fair bit of range if that’s how it works, ( just curious btw)

If you think about how far from the car you can use the manual (un)lock buttons, then yes.

But I'd think that lights feature was linked to the proximity detection that enables keyless entry.

2-3m proximity, i believe for the “see me home” lights to come on as you approach the car.

for a laugh once you park up, before you get out of the car pull the light stalk towards you (high beam flash)  and lock the car as normal. That way the headlights will also come on when the key is detected in that proximity.

Quite far, if you hold the keys to your head😄

If I could find a use for that feature I might try it🤭, my last car had puddle lights that lit up the ground, not sure how useful that was although, I never stepped in any puddles so it must’ve worked 😆
