Two vertical dots of adaptive cruise control & lane symbol?

Never seen this before. Adaptive cruise control on, lane following on, moving slowly. Two dots on the symbol on dash and hud. Crawling on the M6.

No idea what it meant. Assumed something along lines of its following the car in front?

Yup, basically it's having trouble locking onto the lane markings with the camera, so it's locked onto the car in front instead. It's usually temporary until it finds the road again.

I see it more frequently due to abusing the auto-steer more than I think is intended

Have to be a bit wary of it on non-motorways as it will follow the car in front rather than follow its path, so if the target car goes round a sharpish corner, the auto-steer will cut the corner trying to follow them!

It happens all the time at a low speed when you are crawling in traffic behind another car. The system is not being able to track road markings properly, so it uses the car in front to figure out where the center of the lane is.

Thanks, that makes sense. I guess I don't use the lane following enough.

Correct on all counts.

New to the system in our Corolla.   With adaptive cruise control set the car obediently tucked in behind this truck before following onto the Gulf Service Station.
