Something I miss from my previous car: a heated seat.

Especially as it's beginning to get colder in the mornings.

I don't think it was ever an option but know one or two places do fit heated seat elements.

Booked mine in for next month, in Watford, following a recommendation.

I'll let you know how it goes...

( Takes 2-3 hours to fit. )

They were available as an option, a quick forum search shows a handful of posts and some great electrical Tarquin info.

Had my seat 'done' yesterday.

Makes a big difference!

3 C this morning.

Two settings. cooler and hotter. Hotter heats up very quickly.

Is this a 3-position rocker switch (with centre ‘off’) ?

Why? Do you wear a kilt?

Well you know the song…..

*Let the wind blow high, let the wind blow low, through the streets in my kilt I go……”.  😇

Hopefully it’s wired through the ignition!

I'd be very tempted to do this to my Mk4, but I wonder, is this something that has to be declared to insurance...? If so, how much does it affect the premium?

Posted

I’d suggest this is an ‘accessory’ rather than a modification?  Just as you wouldn’t bother to tell them that you added a DAB aerial or a Dashcam, if it is something you could remove, I doubt they’d bother.

Year ago use to have a massage seat with heated controls this was attached to your seat as a accesory and pluged into accesory socket for power.

No airbags in side of the seats those days so fitting was not a problem.

Hi.

We would recommend notifying your insurer of this just to be on the safe side.

Regards,

Dan.

Where would this end?  DashCam? CoffeeMaker? Fluffy dice - when does something become a ‘modification.?

It's a "modification" if it allows the insurer to wriggle out of paying.

Absolutely right - where does it end? I'd say a coffee maker would be a modification.

...and a damn good one too. Double espresso, one sugar for me, please.

Is tying a cushion to your seat, to give you a slightly higher/better driving position, a modification? I need to phone my insurer!!!! I wouldn't want them to deny my claim on the grounds that I could see over the steering wheel. What do you reckon, @DAN@ADRIAN FLUX ?

Do you remember the 70’s (80s?) for ‘beaded seat’ covers? Claimed to improve posture, and keep your circulation going when on a long journey, an insurer tried to claim it hadn’t been declared - and wasn’t the cause of the accident the policyholder was claiming for. As memory serves, it was only tied to the seat with laces and not deemed a modification to the manufacturer’s specifications.  I believe the upshot was if it could be transferred between vehicles, it was an accessory and not notifiable.  (I also believe around that time these companies introduced a £10 fee for any admin policy changes) what a surprise!

Usually a beaded seat cover goes with a gold tissue box on the back shelf, one of those traffic light air fresheners, an aerial on the roof and some weird cracking AM radio station playing

You can buy a quality cushion from a trusted online store like "Moon Nights". I attached a image you can see...
