What is your current navigation map version on bz4x?

Recommended Posts

Just wanted to check what is the latest navigation map version. I contacted Toyota Multimedia team but they have no idea at this moment 😂. Has anyone gotten any updates?  Mine still shows last year's map, V1.

If the maps are released in the same way, it should be twice a year. One around April and the other around October.
I thought the idea of the cloud based navigation was that the local copy was a cache that would be updated as required?
I'm still waiting on my BZ4X so really not sure.

No idea but it is seriously out of date. One business I visit moved 4 years ago but still shows at the old address on the Toyota Software. It is all correct on google maps

You can see the version of the car using the Multimedia system.  I was informed that a user received the map update to V2 months ago.  I'm trying to verify this update here as neither my dealer nor Toyota engineers are aware of map update.

Have you selected which maps you want for OTA updates?

OTA Update Guide

I'm guessing if you haven't selected which regions you want it won't offer an update on the Sat Nav screen? Looks like you select the areas from the website (or maybe the MyToyota app?)

This probably explains it all. Another trip to the dealer when I get time

I get that error message on my RZ - dealer said it just means that I have the latest version. Sounds like rubbish to me. I think the OTA software isn’t capable of updating the maps so only dealers can do it and they don’t want to. My 23 RZ came with the 2022 version which means the traffic cameras are over 1 year out of date

I guess this means car is not capable of updating map via OTA yet. My dealer toldme that they normally download map from a site which is a dedicated toyota website and install it using usb stick. But they have no idea what is the latest map version 😊 nor toyota Multimedia team! Lookes like we all use out dated map currently.

If any one has another version than v1 please inform us here.

We can't reach that screen unfortunately 😕

Well, I don't know about the bZ4X, but if it had been a RAV4 the answer would be along these lines ...

You can do an OTA update from one version to the next. But if you get more than 'n' versions out-of-date you need to download the full update to USB and update from there. Once you back on track you can resume OTA updates ...

Is there any link to download the latest version of the map? 😊

Again if it were a RAV4, it would be My Toyota > eStore > Maps

The link may or may not work, but it's an attempt - you'll need to be logged-in to your My Toyota account to get the correct map for your registered car.

And if that does work, you'll be invited to buy the map - but don't panic, the price will be reduced to zero provided that you are within the initial 3-year Map Care period.

Of course, this could be a complete misdirection if the system has significantly changed with the introduction of the latest multimedia system ... 😉

Maybe try connecting to the home WiFi as maybe the mobile signal isn't strong enough for downloads via the built in service?

No worries, the signal is quite strong. The update through OTA is currently restricted. We only have one way to update the map, and that's using a USB stick 😊. The Toyota Multimedia team has confirmed that USB updates are the only option at the moment. However, my main concern is finding out the latest map version for the most recent Multimedia system, the bz4x. Unfortunately, no one, including Toyota UK customer service, dealers, or Toyota UK Multimedia team engineers, has been able to provide an answer to this question.

Don't understand why dealers have an issue the update is in the same place for dealers as all other map updates they would have been using for years, the latest update for MM21 with embedded nav is 2023v1.

Update is currently via Dealer only

I hate to say it Devon, but so far I've found dealer folk like you and PartsKing are the exception rather than the rule - Most of the dealers I've dealt with have been nowhere near the level of diligence and competence you two have shown over the time I've been on this forum; You both have been truly exceptional compared to the rest!

Hi everybody,

This problem has not gone away. I have Map Version  12-23-45 (2023_03_5) in my recently delivered car.  My agent does not know if it is up to date or when it might be updated.   Update on the menu displays

image.png.08a3818e6655b2137e01af356e596d29.png

The map is out of date.

Does anyone know if Toyota intend to update the map? When?  How will owners know? How can they avoid a round trip to a dealer? (50 miles in my case.

It is all a rather worrying aspect of the car

I know nothing about the bZ4X specifically, but the latest map update would be 2024 v1 (spring); the date on yours corresponds to 2023 v1 (spring) - so, currently, two versions out of date (compared with what is available to other Toyota owners).

Lee says: "Update is currently via Dealer only" so it really is a question of going back to the dealer - he needs to find out ...

I'm getting that as well on a new MY24 corolla. Map says it is 2023-2024 Ver.2

Another screen says map data 12-23-45 (2023-03-5)

I haven't had chance to check my BZ4X yet, but I do wonder if the Smart Connect units work differently.
Much like how you don't have to download updates to Google maps on your phone before leaving the house.

Toyota Smart Connect

I wonder if the unit has a 'base' map and then updates are automatically downloaded in the background negating the need for a full map refresh.
Before Tomtom (Teleatlas) and Nokia trading as Here (Navteq) took over the main GPS map suppliers it used to be possible to see what had been added to map data, but they don't seem to publish any lists (that I've been able to find). I think even Google maps uses data from Nokia

If you don't have a Smart Connect unit then I would expect the updates to be OTA or downloaded from the website as before.

The only way to find out if the map is up to date would be if you know of road changes within the last 6 months to see if it's present on the Smart connect unit (I don't know of any around me).

Hello Toyota Multimedia team replied my email recently. The latest map for bz4x:

"The latest is 12-23-45 [2023-03-5] (2022Q4 data)"

They are really slow in updating the map with this state-of-the-art car, aren't they?

Maybe the fact we seem to have the latest version does in fact explain the refer to dealer message. I guess we have to wait until a newer version is released to find out.

Yep, and then after your 3 years of ownership they'll ask you to pay.  I had something similar with another car brand and they accepted this was not good enough and extended the time to obtain 'free' updates.

My MapCare expiry says 12/3/2031

I have just looked at past updates for previous cars in my profile and it looks like the Spring updates generally arrived at the end of April / early May.
I don't see any 'Mapcare' for the BZ4X at all
